@ren.amamiya
Hey. With all information going around, Kyna and I wanted to throw something else out there.
It has to do with Riverstone and those experiments that people just came back from. While that was happening, the two of us and a group of others went in. We got some information.
- Riverstone used experiments as a front. Meredith Ling has been looking for a way in with us for a while. They want to control us.
- That means Riverstone has known about us for a while, too.
- Meredith Ling has a grudge against "the man that messed everything up" during Project Spinetail. We couldn't get a name, but I'm pretty sure it's James Henries. (Thanks, @marian.hawke.)
- Half the building was shut down. Everyone was gone except for the guards. I think they were expecting more problems from us.[since, you know, they had caused quite a lot of problems in the past.]@kyna.medina found some info about the monsters, and a contact that's been helping out had some follow up. I'll let her talk about what she saw.@kyna.medina
the samples i found were all easy access, either in unlocked drawers or left out. they must be working on this stuff pretty actively, or they expected us to find it. the parts were:
- angler teeth. it looks like the tests were all trying to figure out their composition.
- multiple vials of arachne venom
- samples of basilisk lungs (trying to harness the venom, i’m thinking)
- quills from the giant boars
- slugs. as in, a lot of fucking slugs. let’s hope they’re not trying to figure out how those things control people, but considering our luck, they totally are.
a contact at riverstone said they’re studying the monsters to develop cures to prevent their effects and see if the world can benefit from them somehow. after they lied to us about the reasons for the tests they ran on us though, i’m not buying it.
i took plenty of pictures, so if you want them, they’re here.[Kyna includes a download link. There are indeed a lot.]@ren.amamiya
This is a lot, especially for people who just arrived. There's Sweets' document too. It's here.
I know we all have our own ideas on how to keep going from here, but we wanted everyone on the same page. We've been used by a lot of people, and I don't think we want to be used by Riverstone, too.
They want us for a reason.@kyna.medina
edit: by the way, riverstone knows that we were poking around. there were four of us, and we were escorted out. we’re probably not welcome back in new beijing anytime soon, but we were the only ones affected by it.

Hello you lot. I know people might still be pissed about what went down, so ignore if you don't want an update, however.
So Riverstone sent us medical reports but since I don't know what any of it means, if someone with modern/medical know-how wants to look and explain shite, I'll send it to you. These are the summaries I think I understood:
Our powers don't seem to be biological? So when we used them they didn't show any biological changes? I think? Don't know what that means.
I agreed to do a dream study to try and figure out why I keep showing up in your dreams, they said strangely our brains appear completely awake when we're doing it. No wonder I'm bloody tired.
Also can someone who's been around for a bit explain what the Mariana Trench was?
Added: I got weary of not letting other people take the buck on this one, they gave us the name James Henries and said if we told you lot they'd lose their advantage. Hopefully not, but there you go!

K so here's the deali-o:
Ian is working on the whole legal mumbo-jumbo in the off case we have need of it (hopefully not) but for safety reasons we need to know who is going to go through the tests. So in this post you can say it! No need to explain yourself, just "me" or whatever name you use that for some reason is not your tag will do. And if you are afraid to get the stinky eye from others, just write it privately.
This list is going to be for a very small number of people, basically us involved in trying to get as much protection to you guys as possible.
I understand that some of you might go "nah fuck you I don't owe you shit" and decide not to tell us, and hey, that's totes your choice, but it will certainly be easier if we can tell how many people are going and make sure they're all going out of their free will and what not.
So yeah, there you have it. Also please please don't comment here to bitch about this whole thing; much as I love to scroll through all your very well thought out drama this ain't the place, chief.

I know we're all busy with existence-threatening situations and the like, but I have a really important question on behalf of some of our other friends.
When, exactly, are we letting Cassius out of the vacuum cleaner?

@tony.stark
hey, tony here.
rey and i just left the meeting with riverstone. long story short: they want test subjects if we want answers to who they suspect is bringing all of us here. they aren't willing to budge on this. what a shocker.
why are they so interested in us? apparently, they want to know how we were able to disrupt the simulation back in may. given judas is still a credible threat, they're claiming to utilize what information they gain from the tests to potentially create a preventative measure against similar attacks in the future as well as help us learn more about our biology.
@rey.solo
they also have their own reasons to be interested in the people who brought us here. riverstone suspects that the people who have been dropping us off and the person who prevented my arrested when i changed my name are one in the same.
according to them, this person — not a group, a person — may have been involved in the marianas trench incident that riverstone believes we’re also connected to. apparently, good riverstone scientists were killed during that experiment. I know some of the displaced have already speculated that the marianas trench may be connected to us. riverstone agrees.
this person was never punished for their role in the experiment, and they’ve been operating extrajudicially. they seem to want to punish this person for the people they got killed. in other words, i think they’re on our side. really.
@tony.stark
if you think that sounds too good to be true, there's more.
they've agreed to a NDA which will be included in the consent forms for volunteers. i've looked it over. it's airtight, but i just want to take a moment to point out that this is one of the largest corporate entities in this world. they have both the power and the means to do whatever the fuck they want with the data they collect without us ever knowing. so with that said, they're going to be conducting interviews to see what kind of tests we feel are appropriate. i strongly advise against any that will require a sample of our DNA or any that will be performed under general anesthesia.
full access to the data gathered will be given to the participants and relevant riverstone personnel. they've also agreed to let us have representatives present for the procedures.
@rey.solo
and they’ve shown no interest in sharing the data they gather with other parties. it seems to me like they’ve got their own fathier in this race.
we should think about what these tests might turn up about some of our collective powers. i know a number of us have been trying and failing to learn more about our dreams, about the empathy bond, and about the objects in our chests. it might be tempting to use the resources that riverstone is offering to get some of the answers we’ve been looking for.
if anyone is considering consenting to tests about these, i do think we should talk about it because these are powers that all of us share.
@tony.stark
i don’t trust them and i won’t be participating in any of the tests, but i realize that there are differing opinions among us. for whatever it’s worth, i’m going to stay here to make sure that they won’t try and pull anything funny during the procedures.
for the ones who are interested in volunteering and want extra legal security, i hear @ian.fowler is cooking something up.

I'm going to be researching and interviewing law firms to represent the displaced that intend to participate in Riverstone testing.
This doesn't mean I agree with the decision, and I won't be participating, but I genuinely believe that it's worth trying to protect them legally if they're adamant about doing it.
If you're interested, here are the things I'll be asking them to look into
-clear terms that all harvested organic material is the property of the participant of the study, but granting permission to Riverstone to complete a pre-approved list of tests they communicate in advance
-any genetic material has to either be returned or destroyed upon completion of the testing, and what exactly completion means
-PII needs to be considered confidential and shouldn't be stored by Riverstone beyond a specifically allotted time period after testing, with the exception probably being people still employed with the company
-we'd need some kind of statement on their security policies or data maintenance in the event that they're conveniently hacked
-we'd need an airtight nondisclosure agreement that includes our interests, not just theirs
-maybe some kind of declaration of intent with the stipulation that anything outside of the specified use cases be approved by all parties involved
-an agreement to release all findings to the participants of the study, or a specified list of contacts in the event that participant can't be located
I'm aware it's entirely possible Riverstone could just do whatever they wanted behind closed doors regardless, but I'm hoping this will help dissuade more blatant abuse and also give participants a leg to stand on if we find any evidence they breached contract. I also believe that if they refuse these terms, they have undeniably nefarious intent that should officially and realistically dissuade the Displaced from participating at all.
The point of this is post is to ask if anyone would be willing to donate toward the legal costs. I think this will benefit the displaced as a whole even if not everyone gets involved; if we have to have personal information given out to a mega-corporation anyway we may as well bundle in one more person who's fighting for our interests.
I'll be donating what I can myself. I'll also inquire about pressing Riverstone for a contribution toward the legal fees, since they're so interested in testing us. They may or may not be willing to negotiate on that point.
Any amount you're willing to contribute would be appreciated.
Thanks.

i made a mistake
-------
ETA
Riverstone is interested in cooperating with the Displaced to learn more about the people who brought us here. They figured out who I was when I put in the paperwork to change my name back. Apparently, I'm still on the UN's most wanted list, but someone prevented the UN from acting to bring me into custody.
I don't know who, and neither does Riverstone — in fact, they asked me about it.
But they know that I'm one of the Displaced, which actually explains a few things. I've been working for Riverstone for months. After I went to Everest, I was gone a bit longer than the rest of us, well beyond El's coverage. They gave me back my job anyway. I don't think this was news to them. If you ask me, that's a sign they're not out to get us, but I realize not everyone will agree there.
Now they want to talk to all of us, or as many of us as are interested. Riverstone is offering to pay travel expenses in New Beijing for one week for anyone who wants to undergo observation and testing of their power, and who's willing to answer some questions. I know that sounds scary. I know scary. The UNA had me in custody for some time, running "tests." But Riverstone claims that what they're offering is different, that we'll preview everything first.
Before you decide, I should mention ... they think they might know something about who's been dropping us off. In return for our cooperation, they're willing to exchange that information.
I'm not telling anyone what to do, and no one else should try to do that either. But if follow (this) link, you can register your information with the Riverstone employees in charge of this, and they'll reach out to you to arrange the trip.

What's the deal with your surname? If you have one. We don't have them, where I'm from. I'm not stupid, for what it's worth-- I don't need the concept explained to me. I know they're just... family names, or whatever.
I just wanna know... what does yours mean, I guess. If it has a meaning. Where did it come from. If you don't have one, how did you... I don't know, choose yours, when you got here?
Anyway I guess I was gone for a bit, now I'm back, don't make a big deal about it.
19 September 2020 @ 06:34 pm
[ gross, talking to people. but needs must. ] I need someone to let me stab them.
I'll fix it.
Thanks.
05 September 2020 @ 01:44 pm
so everyone knows shit sucks right now
since i've been here i've seen a lot of talk about what we should do, but it seems like everyone has a different idea
some people want to start superhero teams and some people want to require training for everyone new who shows up
some of us want to go public, some don't, some people trust morningstar and some people think they're shady
some people are just saying "fuck it" and think we should worry about ourselves
you know, all that shit
so i guess i just wanted to crowdsource
get everyone's thoughts in one place or whatever
because it seems like fucked up shit keeps happening and since i got here, it's getting worse
this is probably going to start a whole argument about how much responsibility we even have when we've just been dragged here without a choice
or people saying no one should expect us to act as a group but
idk
here's your chance to be all opinionated
go

I hope everyone's doing as well as can be expected, at the very least, after everything that happened. Please remember that although rebuilding is important and many of you may be involved in those efforts, it's just as important to give yourselves enough time to recover physically and mentally, so make sure you're getting some rest.
Now that things have calmed down a little, and with the election coming up, I've been trying to get a sense of who the main groups and important individuals are here. A lot of information seems kind of obscure or contradictory, so I'm interested in hearing more first-hand opinions and experiences from anyone who's willing to share. Specifically, I'd like to know more about the past actions of those like Morningstar, the corporations, politicians or other important individuals, that sort of thing, as well as any noteworthy interactions we may have had with any of the as a group; basically anything that will help me get a sense of who the major actors are and what their motivations might be both in general and in regard to us.[And, because whenever he posed questions like this in Hadriel someone would ask, he decides to add a little context.]If anyone is wondering what I plan to do with the information, at home I'm a criminal profiler with the FBI, for those of you that means anything to. For those it doesn't, basically my job is to investigate major crimes--murder, usually--and use whatever evidence exists to determine a criminal's behavior, and therefore predict what they might do in the future or potentially outright identify them. The same principles can be applied on a larger scale, so I'm hoping to get a better idea of the situation and where people and organizations stand.[As a last side note, because this also came up a lot--]Also, to be clear, just because I'm FBI doesn't mean I care about minor crimes at all. You don't have to be careful about letting it slip that you're engaged in some sort of nefarious activity as long as it isn't murder or something, and another dimension is a little far outside of my jurisdiction anyway.
