So I know I can't be the only one who's had the unexpected pleasure of coming into possession of messages that aren't intended for my consumption. I'm not talking about you getting someone's private love letters or metaphorical cat video links, which I've gotten and deleted.

If I were back home, I'd be sliding this info to my nearest and dearest investigative journalist type. Since I'm not, well, I guess I've got to take matters in my own hands.

It's an interesting read, so, I'm just going to include the unedited details for all.

[what follows is a copy of the message that peter had received earlier, sent from lydia gill-jade, which seems the sort of thing that would come up in a current headlines search if it weren't presumably a secret. well, so much for that, huh?]

Maybe it's just me, but do people usually name successors for campaign donations?

Hello everyone,

Unless I’ve missed something in the past hour or so, it seems like our network hasn’t been compromised by whatever has caused this massive security failure. I have at least five messages in my inbox that I’m certain aren’t for me, but everything seems clean here.

I think, as the group of people with the (apparently) only properly functioning network (and various talents, in a manner of speaking), we’re obligated to use it to organize ourselves and assist. The entire city is facing more problems as a result of this breach than I’ve ever seen before from one event. If you’re not particularly interested in helping those that could be trapped in cars or victims of accidents right now, consider that the external temperature has been rising. I don’t know about everyone else, but I’m personally certain that once it gets around 55C I’m going to start dying.

The network has apparently been used before to coordinate teams of Displaced, let everyone know what’s needed and who to meet with, and I suggest we do it again. I’ll keep an eye on this and provide hotlinks to pertinent discussions, so anyone with particular skills or interests can volunteer themselves.

Stay safe everyone. Don’t spend too much time in the heat without decent protection, you can only help so much if you pass out in the middle of it.

Investigation into the leak that lead to the raid on Morningstar agents in September strongly suggests that the source might, in fact, be survivors of the crash in June.

It is time to consider moving on the UNA.

However, this poses several problems, particularly given that our goal is ultimately to reclaim the captured agents.

The first is determining their location; Morningstar has been unable to track the captured agents and it is likely that the UNA has a means to nullify or otherwise cloak the implants much in the way Morningstar has been able to do with the Displaced following each drop-off.

The second is extracting the agents once we have determined their location; this will place any rescuers directly in the path of UNA soldiers who are, as experience suggests, difficult to engage directly. It is also likely that in accomplishing this, the UNA will immediately suspect Morningstar which will lead to an elevation in hostility.

The most efficient way to acquire the information that will allow us to do both is to go to the source: capturing one of their soldiers.

To that end, the UNA has a base locally. Scouting for information will be difficult though not impossible.

Ideally, we will be looking to pin down movement patterns and shift times before moving onto outright capture; the soldiers work in groups. We will also need to secure a site to hold them once they’re in our custody.

Those that wish to assist are welcome, particularly those with abilities and experience beyond that which Morningstar can provide. Additionally, anyone wishing to weigh in on this plan or offer alternatives should do so now, as the longer the agents remain in UNA custody, the greater the risk to the rest of us.

( OOC NOTES:
1. while the tone of this post might give the impression that kylo ren has determined his course and will not be moved, we are in fact very open to suggestion and brainstorming.
2. this network is locked to morningstar agents and contacts. if you would like to be involved and have not signed up with morningstar yet, the page is here.
3. any ideas discussed here will likely be referred back to in the upcoming event, despite the fact that this network is happening prior to knowledge of the event.
4. mods wanted to clarify that there is only a single base in the city. )

Hi everyone,

If you don't already know me from the safehouse or the guide, I'm Fitz, one of the arrivals from the first transport. Prior to being here, I was a weapons and technology expert at SHIELD. Now, I’m a Pulsar engineer and, more importantly, an agent of Morningstar.

Recently, @ojiro.juniper approached me with the clever idea to kickstart some research and development efforts. We’re working on a way to bankroll this, and we’ll let you know how that develops in due course. For now, regardless of where discussions have evolved on the nature of organisation and leadership, we need your assistance with some big endeavors, both for the Displaced and Morningstar.

1. As some of you may know from the raids, Morningstar has a cache of unidentified weapons in its local store. We don’t know what they do, how they work, how dangerous they are, and so on, but I want to find out. So, let's discuss a plan: Any thoughts or ideas for how to approach the cache and suss everything out safely would be welcome.

Reckon we’ll need at least one colour-coded spreadsheet.
[ ***NOT JOKING ]

2. We could use a team of engineers for ad hoc projects. Presently, I’m exploring tech that could counter both the UNA and the creatures that keep popping up, as well as give us more freedom to act whenever trouble comes our way — all by my lonesome.

If this sounds like something you’re interested in, whether or not you have the technical know-how to get to work immediately, or you want to learn on the job, let me know. Can’t pay you in anything except snacks, but I can assure you they’ll be bug free.

3. Hi, this is Ojiro. In addition to the above, I also need an engineer for personal reasons, and I will pay you. I need someone with a lot of experience with tech as advanced as the standard here, preferably lots of hands-on engine work. Message me if you're interested!
Cheers.

― Fitz

[ Check out here for more deets on the cache and here for some OOC knowledge of what Fitz is working on personally. He’ll share details of the latter strand of work with any individuals wanting to form a geek squad c: For #3, interested applicants can just private message Ojiro on this post! I'll be throwing together a plot engagement incorporating what characters ICly suggest in the coming weeks! ]

Things are changing soon. Have changed. The new safehouse is nearly open for business, and while it's Morningstar property, Morningstar security and Morningstar interests, it's still yours. We've transferred the deed over, but we've set up a system where that can be handed back to us if anything goes wrong or if anyone disappears for good. It's set so we can pass it on. Plus: we don't disappear.

[ "we" = Morningstar. "we" = the people of this world. Gaby is no rhetorical genius but she knows what it means to draw that line. ]

Which is one of my two points.

1. We move to the new safehouse on the 1st of November. We have transportation to get over there, and it's a garage, so we can walk in like normal looking people hoping to start a business there. This place will be closed down. Detonated and cleansed. If you have anything here that's yours, get it out before then.

2. I've intended to stay on. El must stay on given zeir setup of your lives when you get here. But I realize some of you think you're going to be more independent than that. So, I'll leave it open. If you demand my absence – fine. But bear in mind that I am the only local resource and the only one who won't disappear. More than that? I'm invested. But if you say go, I go. It's up to you.

Discuss.

[ there is one big thing she's leaving out: the end result of the conflict with V. better to leave that for now, until she knows her status, and to pass it off then. only then. ]

Hey, good news: I've got a quiz.

[ everyone loves online quizzes, right!! ]

Bad news: it's incredibly invasive and you probably won't want to answer it, but do me a favor and keep reading anyway.

We need to talk about our dreams. So far, we've got:

The dreams on October 5th. Already weird, but significantly weirder after our subconscious deep-dive. As far as I know there are 2 that have been shared between a few people, possibly a 3rd. If any of this sounds familiar, feel free to share with the class:

    a) a group looking for a bridge and crossing it
    b) being held in a facility full of sick people and getting stabby with a lab coat
    c) being herded like cattle while strangers check your vitals

And then we've got the dreams pre-New Tokyo, which is where the insensitive quiz comes in. I want to correlate as much data as we can, but we can't do that without any data. I know most of us don't want to talk about what went down while we were under, and there isn't much I can do to change that. I'd offer to collect the information privately, or entrust it to someone people like more, but I don't think that'll work, either. We have no idea what we're looking for, so only putting a few eyes or perspectives on it is just going to put us at a disadvantage.

The best I can do is keep it anonymous. You can use THIS SURVEY to share whatever you're willing to share. Omit what you have to, but the more details we can get, the better our odds of finding patterns or keys. The survey won't collect your IDs and tracking's completely off. The catch is that the rest of the Displaced and a few friends at Morningstar will be able to see your answers — even without names attached, I know that's asking a lot. Give yourself a second to think before you hit submit.

For now, all I really want to figure out is whether the environments we encountered belonged to us and whether you'd class them as completely abstract dreams or slightly screwy memories. If we can place dibs on most of them, that's a start. If you want to share anything else, you'll get extra credit.

Last but not least: intellectual discussion and mystery solving is strongly encouraged, but dream shaming is strongly discouraged. Don't be a dick.
( OOC NOTES: This post is 100% for open discussion and threadjacking! Here's a link to the OCTOBER DREAMS descriptions and sign-ups for reference. Regarding SURVEYS, the top-level functions as an external "google form". Just C&P the form and reply to the top-level IC. All survey replies are completely anonymous, and all characters can view these answers.

All discussion must take place on the network post itself with character IDs attached. You cannot reply to the survey responses with free-for-all anonymous discussion. The mechanic is being used to make info sharing easier with sensitive details/private characters, not completely skirt around the network's "no anonymous" rule. Please use it in the spirit intended! )

not that threatening to decapitate each other and arranging moonlight duels isn't oscar-worthy, but for those of us that prefer alternatives to murder...

i'd like to point out that the future still apparently celebrates halloween. sure, there are bar crawls and costume parties everywhere you look... but do we really need the publicity of booze + empathy bonds + blue light specials?

maybe we should consider throwing our own party. any takers?

hi everyone

to all of those who are new: you're probably confused and have a lot of questions. you're not alone. those of us who've been here for longer don't have all the answers, but we have some - and because new drop-offs seem to happen regularly, we've put together a document with what information we have.

[ attached: ARRIVAL GUIDE ]

if there are any other questions you have, go ahead and ask!

and @everyone, i realise we're all still floundering on this one, but let's collect all the information we have on the dream(s) and the way it/they seem to have affected reality and write some of that up in the guide, too?

Thank you to Yalena for getting us sorted. [Sort of sorted. Sort of.] Now that we've arrived in New Tokyo and we're stuck inside for a little while, I think we should talk about some new changes that we're facing. I can't be the only one.

But first: a good number of us are here unwillingly, but we have to wait until we're fully prepped before we can go anywhere. Heading outside in these temperatures while unprepared could cost you your life. We all hate being trapped somewhere. I think that's pretty well-established. We also hate having to do anything or be anywhere when we didn't ask for that to happen. At least it doesn't seem like we were drugged, though it wouldn't hurt for Katelin and I to take some blood samples to confirm that. We'll have to store them until we get back.

As for the changes in your lives: have you noticed any? For instance, apparently I'm a lab tech at Giles Bell. I tried to set myself up for a new internship there that I could get easily, but I got ... elevated. Or hired beyond that? I'm not sure what the right terminology is here. Has anyone else noticed this? Or had it happen to them? I got permissions to take leaves from both of my jobs. And no, I'm really not prepared to work as a lab tech. I don't even know the first thing about setting up gels.

As a bit of a personal request ... does anyone think we can make pancakes in the small kitchen here? I have a craving for them. I've not really had cakes of the "pancake" variety before, but I want them now. And if you think we can, can you make them?

[This last bit is Loki's fault.]

[ IC DATE: OCT 06, 17:00 ]

Good evening, everyone. For our new arrivals and those of you I haven’t yet met, I’m Peggy Carter. I arrived on the fifth transport in August. You’re likely already acquainted with Fitz (@leo.fitz) from the first transport. And as you may have noticed on the news, the problems in this world have escalated. So we have a proposition for you.

But first, to catch you up: We all woke up far from home, and a rebel organisation called Morningstar found us first, providing assistance. For over 50 years, Morningstar has fought to restore human rights, dismantle the influence of corporate conglomerates, fight government corruption, and save lives in this world. But on September 10th, the United Nations moved against them — and between the arrests and emergency relocation of the surviving agents, their ranks here have been severely depleted. (Check the Newbie Guide for more information).

Without Morningstar, crucial eyes and ears on the inside and boots on the ground are gone. If we want to understand and help this world, filling those gaps is a logical next step. Not just for ourselves but for the people who relied on Morningstar long before we got here.

Both Fitz and I chose to join up some time ago (and we aren’t the first of our group to do so). After the arrests, we approached Gaby with an offer to help rebuild Morningstar’s network and take on any unfinished business in the aftermath. She identified charity work in the poverty-stricken districts of the city as a chief priority.

If you want to help, you can lend a hand tonight. Carter and I will be at the safehouse from 19:00 to answer questions, and at 20:00 sharp, we’re heading out as Morningstar agents to deliver food and clothes to those in need. Even if you can’t yet leave the safehouse, you can help us prep packs.

And if you would like to do more or feel your position in New Amsterdam society could help Morningstar’s cause, do let us and Gaby know. We’re keen to assist anyone with exploring their options here or in person. Our varied backgrounds and skills mean we have the potential to strengthen Morningstar’s network of intelligence and contribute beyond our own objectives, too.

Our aim today is to share this information and the opportunity to volunteer. Unfortunately, because we’ve used precious resources and inadvertently attracted scrutiny in the public eye — often while asking for Morningstar’s help with investigations into our predicament, as I’ve done — our current relationship with Morningstar is tenuous at best, despite our recent assistance during the raids. But consider this a new chapter.

Our stay here may be temporary, but we can still strive to leave this world better than how we found it. Thank you for your time.

EDIT: Thanks to @nill.klein and @sansa.stark, we've set up two boxes for clothing at the safehouse: One for ready-to-donate items and one for items in need of repair. The labelling will appear when you scan them with your neural implant, so you know which is which.

[ ooc; For context, the plot engagement comment outlining all this information is here. There will not be a log for the clothing/food run mentioned in the post, so you’re welcome to handwave your character coming along or roll in here. Both Fitz and Peggy will be replying in the comments, although not necessarily to all of them, so feel free to discuss amongst yourselves, turn threads into in-person chats with our resident Brits, and ask questions! Let's get collaboratin'! 💪🏼]

@everyone: given the reports of the attack on new tokyo, it might make sense for us to review what we know about the attack on new amsterdam and its aftermath. i've included a summary in the guide, but let me know if i've forgotten anything.

i don't know what will happen in new tokyo now, but it's something to think about. what questions are still open about the attack here, and can we find out anything else?

here's what i don't get

someone leaked the names and locations of those agents. that i get, people are corruptible. might be a problem for us at some point, if it's still a thing, but it's not weird.

what is weird is that the soldiers didn't knock on gaby's door and didn't plan for us at all. seems like a pretty big tactical fuck-up to me, unless they didn't know about our existence, but again. leak.

so, anyone got an explanation for that? hells, i'd take guesses, too.

As some of you may already know, discussion has been taking place in regards to moving to a new safehouse; I understand that this isn’t a small endeavor, yet it’s something that should be seriously considered in the wake of all that’s happened. And while losing a multitude of Morningstar contacts is a detriment in its own right, it makes sense to view this as a new opportunity for the displaced. To become autonomous, self-sufficient, and able to move in whatever direction we deem as best for ourselves and those who would join us in the future. To finally be able to rely on our chosen initiatives, instead of depending on the generosity of an outside group with their own causes, objectives, and priorities to tend to.

This wouldn’t be a complete severance from Morningstar. Gaby, El, and a few others will still be willing to assist us when they can, and what previous resources left behind in the city will be available for us to use. It would be more akin to a partnership, with the understanding to give aid to the other when reasonably needed. Quid pro quo.

I’m not here to make these decisions for us, only to open the floor to discussion and to provide information so we can decide if and how we want to proceed. El’s given us a shortlist of unoccupied sites that are best suited for setting up a new safehouse. I’ve summarized them very briefly.

BEEP BOOP a tiny cut )

All of these locations have an underground space which would house the core of the safehouse. What exists above is not only a front, but will have to act as a means of financially sustaining ourselves to keep supplies stocked, facilities running, and to afford basic upkeep. Which means that we’d be running a business on top of everything else, and should consider which will be the most viable as venture; which also means that we’ll need capital to get started, several people willing to devote their time and energy to this project, and reliable individuals who can work as actual employees once things are up and running.

Needless to say, I’m willing to commit the time and effort necessary to see it through to the end. But this is a large project that won’t get off the ground unless we compile resources and ideas together — and the earlier, the better.

[Please discuss!!]

((OOC; This is an open post for everyone to discuss matters about the future safehouse! Markus won’t necessarily be responding to each tag-in.))

Our most recent foray into sudden disaster has highlighted a great many things, but there are a couple in particular I'd like to address:

1. Medically speaking, we're understaffed
2. As a group, we're not aware of or making the best of our collective pool of resources.

We were quick to respond, and it's frankly astonishing what we were able to achieve given the immediacy and scope of the problem, but it's perfectly clear that we're not going to be living a quiet life. We need to make sure, before the next thing comes, that we're going to be able to build on the systems we created this time around. And if we're to have the capacity to respond to a mass need for medical attention without as much Morningstar presence going forward, we're going to need more hands on deck. Once that's done, anything smaller scale will be easy to account for.

So, a few things.

Firstly, I'd like to offer at least basic first aid training to anyone who'd like to accept it.
Secondly, I'd like to know who among us are already medically trained and to what degree. (This absolutely includes those with self-taught, functional knowledge, though I'll recommend you still accept the training for a wider breadth of understanding and to gain experience with the medical resources available here in the city.)
Thirdly, a show of hands for anyone among that number happy to take on a training role.

Lastly, I'd like to say thank you to anyone who dealt with injury in the field, the safehouses and general care afterwards, or anyone who helped move equipment or medics and the injured throughout the city - and especially to @clarke.griffin, without whom we wouldn't have had a working plan even half as quickly or the availability of equipment out in the field that we did. It all made a difference.

[ usually there's a bit more of an easy tone to him, but the mood the last few days has been exhausting. it's a win for them on some levels, but also a loss—it certainly feels more like a loss. ]

Well, it's certainly been a week. While it's still fresh in our minds, I'd like to pose a few questions as we collectively recover from the last mission, directly from experience. Some of us, if not most, came in head-to-head with the United Nations Army. I'd like to know what everyone picked up from their close encounters.

Thus:
Were there any details noticed that stuck out? Oddities in behavior? Perhaps abilities used and tidbits returned in certain unexpected results? Fill in your own question here, etc. etc.

There were enough hints put together that their methods of organization weren't exactly "normal." While I've got a few of my own theories, but I'd quite like to hear everyone else's thoughts on this whole dealy. This may lead elsewhere, depending on just how far the rabbit hole takes us. There are still some Morningstar agents out there, taken from their homes and families, as well as a disgruntled and unsure UN.

To make things clear: I've decided to pose these questions to compile our experiences. We'd be best to have an idea of what we're dealing with in the future and where they can dealt with as the situation calls. As our circumstances currently sit, I doubt this will be our first and last run-in with the UN authorities, by nature of our own existences. I refuse to give them satisfaction of anything close to winning.

19 January 2019 @ 02:21 pm
There are a lot of things I can say here. I can chastise all of us for how discussions went before. But that's not important. People are in danger, and they're people who have helped us. I haven't made it a secret that I think Morningstar doesn't deserve devotion from us. The thing is, there's a difference between devotion and helping out someone who's helped you. It's time for us to do the latter. My issues don't mean anything. We know Morningstar can do good work.

So, let's talk. Let's plan. We should all do it in the same place.

I want to lay some ground rules.

1. Even if we've been asked to use the weapons only to stun any assailants, a number of us know it's not that simple. So, let's skip the morality talk about whether or not that's okay. Sorry, Gaby. I actually trust most people won't go in guns blazing.
[She actually wouldn't if there weren't "civilians" involved. She's still not sure she does now, but that's unimportant. White lies have a place here.] Self-defense is a thing. Let's all trust one another.

2. I have a lot of questions about this. We all do. But we have a limited time to pull this off. Let's try to focus on what we can do and then figure out the rest later. If you think you can get answers now that can help us? Bring it forward. Make a new reply to draw eyes to it.

3. I figure we have two separate directions we can go, but we need all hands on deck. If you're not comfortable handling a gun, take the address for the safehouses and get them set up.

4. Nothing "funny" about these rules. Which means the first thing you're all going to say is ... about my rules. Get it out of your system.

[There is a lot more to say, a lot more to add, but Clarke knows that it likely isn't her place to talk about it. Plus, some of these people are adults, even if they don't act like it. Maybe they won't make a joke about her rules.

... But she bets they will.]

edit: Daisy set up a useful map for everyone. Keep it updated as best as you can.

[ooc: this is the previously discussed and set up IC planning post for the event! Clarke won't be replying to everyone.]

10 January 2019 @ 10:23 am
[ this was supposed to be one of Gaby's days off. in fact, she's not in the safehouse when the message comes in. ]

Turns out that we're missing two new faces around the safehouse.

I'd play a guessing game as to why I wasn't told, but I don't care. These two faces apparently murdered two people that night.

I don't know who they are, but I do know that they're locked up. Any guesses as to what's going to happen to them?

Genuine question. Because I don't know.

Oh, and because some of you think you can do whatever the hell you want around here: don't think the way out for them is a jail break. Don't even fucking try it. And no, Morningstar isn't in the business of breaking people out of jail, because that would be stupid.

[ she's a little angry. no. a lot. but mostly she doesn't know how to handle this one. ]

Look. You know something? Tell me. You won't be "in trouble."
