@marcos.diaz
[ marcos hadn't really expected to be back on this network so soon but he'd said he'd do something and while it was a little later than expected, he was going to follow through with that. ]
Not too long ago, I was here with questions about a different version of me being here before. Seems like there's a few people that's happened to now so our club's growing. I'm not here for that today.
During that conversation, I told someone that I'd ask a question to all the Displaced because she was curious and honestly, I am too.
Question is why do you stick around? Why haven't more of you 'fucked off into oblivion' to quote the last conversation I had about this? Is it because there's nowhere else better to go? Or something else?
[ it'd be interesting to see if there was genuine thought in some of the answers, if people didn't know there was anywhere else to go, or just didn't want to make the effort. ]
To be clear, I'm not advocating one way or another. Just posing the question.
[ OOC: this isn't an official mod requested communication and isn't part of some bigger plot. it's just curiosity born of a conversation marcos had with gaby here that he said he'd ask about so he's asking. feel free to talk to each other, of course, and i'll answer as i can. ]

Being around people I can talk to about that has helped. Plus, I believe in working with the other Displaced and seeing them as friends and allies, even with my misgivings about trying to unify us around a singular concept or belief. (And that's partly because I had tried to see if it was possible long before we posed it here.)
Just the same, I think this is a good question to ask. Thanks for bringing it to the rest of us.

[ humanity in his world was pretty messed up but they were all still there. they were trying to kill each other so maybe that wouldn't be true in a few years but right now, no one was really alone. ]
I don't know if there's any one belief that people could unify under besides the one that connects everyone and that's that we don't really belong here.
[ with that being said, though: ] But I've met people who would rather be here than home so I don't even know if that works.

poe: what's up i'm jared i'm 19 and i never fucking learned how to read ]
there was another me here before too. and you woke up on the van just like everybody else, right? not in the safehouse?
Re: @poe.dameron
[ look, marcos will answer these questions because the more he learns about potential duplicates and copies of himself, the better. ]
But people recognized me here like I could have just been a neighbor they hadn't seen in awhile.

i guess for most people it's just not an option yet
you have to have money to live anywhere else, and you have to get a job to get any.
[ have you gotten a real job yet, marcos?? ]
no subject
You sure about that?
[ he hadn't had a real job in a long, long time and he'd lived in a myriad of different spots. not comfortably but he'd done it.
but yes, he has a real job now. do you? ]

if you asked me that when i first got here, the answer would be simple. we didn't have a way back, so we didn't have much of a choice. if you can't go back, you go through.
now, i guess it's more complicated. if we got a magic portal to go home tomorrow, i don't know that i'd walk through it.
[ mmmmmmmmmm well now that's a thing she's said out loud ]

You'd make the choice to stay?
Why?

[ Mostly the latter. He could do it, he's done it, when all his tissues were nano-engineered to let him hijack devices and he could stick to walls and a thousand other really strange things. Without that...it's considerably more complicated. ]

Not to mention the fact that there's no way anyone who left would find an answer to how and why we ended up here
no subject
For some people, it might be as simple as not wanting to be here under the thumb of people they don't trust. They'll take their chances elsewhere.
You won't find me debating how hard that would be though especially here.
