A lot like normal handholding, except it goes on for an uncomfortably long time and we focus really hard while we're doing it. I want to figure out how intense the effects can get and if we're sharing anything other than our feelings.

And ouch, I'll try not to take it personally. But I've seen organisms that make it possible for humans to share thoughts and experiences. Maybe emotions, technically, but most of the people plugged in weren't the touchy-feely type. Thought I'd see if whatever's enabling the empathy connection has similar capabilities.

Nothing, ideally. I had a kind of infection before I woke up here. The symptoms are gone, but I need to know if it left anything behind.

i haven't tested the bond yet, but i've been meaning to. what kind of tests were you thinking and how are you defining your control measurements?

I wanted to test for different kinds of transfer. Memories, physical sensation, thoughts. No real controls other than assuming the people participating can't do any of those things normally.

But I've already gotten some feedback on a few of my questions. I'll still double check, but I'm starting to think my results are going to be a blanket 'no'.

Sure. Or control them, or make sure they're just an inconvenience and not a potential threat. It's going to be difficult to do anything if we don't make the effort to understand the link.
