Hello everyone,

Unless I’ve missed something in the past hour or so, it seems like our network hasn’t been compromised by whatever has caused this massive security failure. I have at least five messages in my inbox that I’m certain aren’t for me, but everything seems clean here.

I think, as the group of people with the (apparently) only properly functioning network (and various talents, in a manner of speaking), we’re obligated to use it to organize ourselves and assist. The entire city is facing more problems as a result of this breach than I’ve ever seen before from one event. If you’re not particularly interested in helping those that could be trapped in cars or victims of accidents right now, consider that the external temperature has been rising. I don’t know about everyone else, but I’m personally certain that once it gets around 55C I’m going to start dying.

The network has apparently been used before to coordinate teams of Displaced, let everyone know what’s needed and who to meet with, and I suggest we do it again. I’ll keep an eye on this and provide hotlinks to pertinent discussions, so anyone with particular skills or interests can volunteer themselves.

Stay safe everyone. Don’t spend too much time in the heat without decent protection, you can only help so much if you pass out in the middle of it.

The rest of it is a little confusing to me but it might be pointing to something else

I'd rather not melt, so I'm up for a hike to the pyramid generator. I can bring an engineer with me who's good at this stuff, but if anyone else is travelling that way we should probably stick together.

If the temperatures are climbing, we don't want to hike out there. It'll be too slow, and we might not make it if they continue to rise.
We need transportation. Hoverbikes.

Do you have hoverbikes or are we obtaining them along the way.

I'm going to hit the streets and start pulling people out of cars. I don't have much in the way of medical training, so I'll need direction on where to take the injured while the hospitals are in flux.

I recommend that anyone who can't reach their apartment come to the safehouse. We should set up a discreet patrol in the area immediately around it as well to dissuade looters from trying to take advantage of the situation. There may not actually be much to take around here, but that doesn't mean they won't try. We don't want anyone stumbling into the shop.

If anyone at all needs backup or an escort, please let me know. Sticking together will be our greatest strength right now.

I'm looking for volunteers — Morningstar recruits and otherwise — to help extend relief efforts to the impoverished in the city unlikely to be immediately assisted by the government or PRESERVE. They're doing their best, but resources are stretched as thin as can be. What they need are water, sunscreen, and access to shelter wherever you can find it.

Communications are down, as you well know. We cannot coordinate in any organised manner or deploy by zones, so use your instincts and common sense. It's absolute mayhem at City Hall and in the embassy; people will fall through the cracks if we don't step in.

Look after yourselves before you try to assist others, or you'll wind up doing more harm than good. Go in pairs or teams, do not venture out alone.

I'll do my best to join you where I can on the streets, but the border is compromised, and I'm needed at City Hall for now. Please contact me here for any concerns or developments whatsoever. Thank you.

The numbers after the date might indicate a specific time within that day. Other than that, 11-11 was Veteran’s Day in the United States.

In addition to the anonymity factor, they’ve got the added bonus of being unnecessarily extravagant sunglasses — and will provide better air quality.

As for the pyramid, reckon we’ll need a lot of hands on deck. Trekking that far out alone is ill-advised, as others have pointed out. I agree that it's a time stamp. If the date is an anniversary, then the time isn't a coincidence either — although I suspect its significance, if it held any, is lost to history: particularly if it pertains to the AI War. We know that conflict was resolved with an EMP. That may be the time it detonated.

I'll help with relief. I can think of a few places offhand that will make good shelters. And I know some first aid. I'll need some supplies, if there are any to spare.

If there’s significance to the date and time, especially if this is an AI, than the detonation of the EMP blast is the most likely candidate.

Worth a try digging that far back to see if anything crops up.

The year is prior to the dates of the war officially on record (2095-2101), though we know the nature of this world's history-keeping to be unreliable. Under normal circumstances, I'd suggest you search AI War or Xelkoven War for further detail, but public databases appear to be on the fritz. Better bet is what myself, [Bad username or site: connor @ resnik], or others have committed to memory.

Also: If we accept that timeline and if "DAWN" is an AI (and I'm not convinced they are), the date could be their activation date.

The UNA has deployed troops to the border in their usual teams of 3 - 4 soldiers in coordination with the NAPD, but wires are crossed left and right so the orders are being passed on by word of mouth. With the sheer size of the city, you can imagine that's taking some time. They're planning on operating in shifts, but records of the schedule are compromised by the virus and therefore unreliable for long.

We at City Hall and the embassy are very concerned about plugging the holes in security. We might not be able to have all eyes on them at all times. If anyone were to attempt getting out, I can't say for certain we have the resources to pursue them beyond apprehending rogue vehicles as they're spotted. And even then, who knows?

I'm hearing word about makeshift shelters cropping up around the city, shopfronts and the like. What places are you thinking of? We can try and spread that information around to the other volunteers.

Records about the AI War are vague at best, but even the people determined to erase history can't eradicate all traces of it. There must be something.

Sometimes the simplest answer is the correct one. I believe you're right in identifying it as a cipher, and a fairly rudimentary one at that. A = 01 B = 02 and so on.

Then I'll defer to your expertise as well as Mr Resnik's. I trust you've memorised the finer details of the conflict by now. But to your next point —

Yes. The issue being that “something” will be hard to dig up with the state of things as they are now.

I’m not convinced, either. It doesn’t sound like any A.I. overlord I’ve heard of, and I got this weird message from an ID that was all numbers. Looks like some kind of conspiracy theory?
Can’t figure out what it has to do with any of this, but it feels like a tech-savvy troll. Maybe somebody else could make some sense of it.

If you were one of the last of your kind, destroyed in a war sanitised to make the victors look just, would you describe yourself as a mere "blemish," invoking the pre-existing fear of artificial intelligence, only to issues a specific challenge to powerful individuals — with a cryptic question and riddle ⁠— that's seemingly unrelated to the history of AI?

And would you use the weapon that resulted in the mass destruction of your fellows just for the dramatic irony? It's a high-risk move. The AI themselves would have to somewhere safe to use it. Out of range or within a Faraday cage. Not impossible, to be sure, but not too compelling, either.

It strikes me as someone capitalising on humanity's piss poor decision-making, especially when their use of EMPs caused significant collateral damage to any human communities within the dropzones.

I know a skate park that's underground, which will help people keep cool. The overhead lights will be out, but we can get flashlights and other small light sources. I go to Honey♥Honey a lot. The people who work there are nice and I bet they would open up their shop. And Pink Fr33k, too. I think anywhere underground would be a good idea for right now. It might get a little stuffy, but it's better than frying to death in the sun.

The point doesn’t solely have to be “revenge”, though it’s the easiest assumption to make. It might be an underpinning beneath a larger goal, which does seem to be getting the attention of the Displaced. To light a fire beneath us, for some reason benefiting them.

That being said, yes. I think dramatic irony and high-risk actions are not out of the realm of possibility, especially if you feel like you haven’t much else to lose.

I wouldn't say the motive has to be revenge, but why invoke the AI concept and then diverge so quickly? Just for the added attention?
