And would you use the weapon that resulted in the mass destruction of your fellows just for the dramatic irony? It's a high-risk move. The AI themselves would have to somewhere safe to use it. Out of range or within a Faraday cage. Not impossible, to be sure, but not too compelling, either.
It strikes me as someone capitalising on humanity's piss poor decision-making, especially when their use of EMPs caused significant collateral damage to any human communities within the dropzones.
