So is this a philosophical question or a way of showing off your clique to anyone curious enough to look?

[ yes she has been reading the other replies ]
dunhaming: (in related news... actually nope)

Okay, so your family knows what the deal is and the rest of us get to engage in philosophical fencing with you to try and qualify for whatever you’re cooking up? Seems like a lot of good faith to be putting into a stranger, unless you’re only fishing for people willing to follow you blindly.

Why do you think that forming a group of masked vigilantes is going to solve the problems in New Amsterdam? Yes, I agree that there are fundamental flaws in society, but the scale of this isn’t just the city, it’s the whole world. If you start fixing New Amsterdam you’re going to run into the UNA as soon as you make a noticeable difference, and that’s an entirely different scale.
dunhaming: (hypothetical question for you)

[personal profile] dunhaming 2020-03-02 06:59 am (UTC)(link)
Have you thought about using the systems that are already in place to make changes rather than applying an external force to the problem?
dunhaming: (it's a victory for feminism)

So what happens when you vanish in a couple weeks? Or people within your group do? Do you just keep a revolving door of people coming and going to keep this alive? What happens when it turns out the people bringing us here have a different plan for the Displaced and we're whisked away to a different city?

Saying "my way or the highway" can only go so far. If you want to help the people of New Amsterdam you need to get them on board with your plan, not just say "I know best" and hand them your decision. And if you're not willing to compromise on your plan, the only thing you're serving is your own ego.

You haven't given jack shit for anyone to work with unless they dig through the replies you've given to people who are already in the know, so it's cute that you're getting mad when people make assumptions while trying to play whatever game you're going at right now. I really can't tell if you're trying to discuss a serious idea or if you just want everyone to lay out their personal philosophy for your perusal.
dunhaming: (yeah i remember doing the worm)

[personal profile] dunhaming 2020-03-02 07:57 am (UTC)(link)
Alright, I tried having a discussion and you immediately got defensive about what I have and haven't assumed, which isn't very conducive to having a discussion. "Just discussing" means you have no stake in the game, but you clearly do since you're already planning something. So it's very unclear what you actually want here.
dunhaming: (how is there no taco emoji?)

[personal profile] dunhaming 2020-03-02 08:21 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, actually. You giving aggressive and defensive replies left and right doesn't demonstrate the intent of being open to critique to the uninformed. It's not like I know you or can read your mind, you have to go through the dance and charade of making it clear what your intent is, otherwise we're going to have misunderstandings like this. It's not about being more palatable, it's about communication.

I did.

Look, we're just going in circles now. I've said my piece, you can add it to your list of considerations or not.

I do have a final suggestion: hire a PR manager.

I'm impressed.

Most people would have started snapping back at him, the way he was responding to you.

I did know what I was getting into, but I appreciate the vote of confidence.

[ Besides, she was commenting to push Damian's buttons because this whole post seemed like bullshit, but this guy doesn't need to know that. ]

I could tell -- I considered a similar conversation but didn't trust I wouldn't have snapped back anyway.

Can I ask you how long you've been here? Do you actually have any faith in the established organizations?
