@abel.navigator

Hello everyone,

Unless I’ve missed something in the past hour or so, it seems like our network hasn’t been compromised by whatever has caused this massive security failure. I have at least five messages in my inbox that I’m certain aren’t for me, but everything seems clean here.

I think, as the group of people with the (apparently) only properly functioning network (and various talents, in a manner of speaking), we’re obligated to use it to organize ourselves and assist. The entire city is facing more problems as a result of this breach than I’ve ever seen before from one event. If you’re not particularly interested in helping those that could be trapped in cars or victims of accidents right now, consider that the external temperature has been rising. I don’t know about everyone else, but I’m personally certain that once it gets around 55C I’m going to start dying.

The network has apparently been used before to coordinate teams of Displaced, let everyone know what’s needed and who to meet with, and I suggest we do it again. I’ll keep an eye on this and provide hotlinks to pertinent discussions, so anyone with particular skills or interests can volunteer themselves.

Stay safe everyone. Don’t spend too much time in the heat without decent protection, you can only help so much if you pass out in the middle of it.

[Wow this is a lot for someone who just got here... He's trying to do his best to follow along with all the theories but he may have to take notes.]

Forgive me if I'm entirely off base here, or if it's already been stated, but there's something of an idiom in all that, isn't there? Several, really.

To find the North, I mean. Generally you'd say to find True North, but the effect is the same. To find True North. To proceed along the right course of action.

Seems to me that whoever, whatever this is. It wants us to open our eyes. To find out the truth. Whatever that might be.

So you're of the opinion this is more figurative than literal.

Perhaps because I'm only "new" and thus I don't have as much context as the rest of you, but -- yeah. Who's to say that it isn't?

I'd not sell yourself short, it's not as anyone really gets used to this.
Nor has this really happened before.

Though the whole statement seems to have a metaphoric twist, so I'm inclined to agree.

Well, I can't say that that's exactly GOOD to hear, but. At least we're all on the same page here, I suppose.

I think the true mystery is in the code itself. "WHO OFFERED HIM THE CROWN" and all.

Whoever, whatever sent that message. They're going to a lot of trouble to try to tell us something. In a fashion.

I'm not entirely convinced that it's purely us. Though I would consider our involvement a factor, if you get my drift.

I like your saying, but it doesn't make sense in the context of the message. Birds do know north from south, but they can't tell right from wrong.

you don't hang out with birds much do you?
998: (.... . . . . .... . . ....)

[jon has a bird.

and he wasn't really thinking about it but actually yes, birds in his experience are completely amoral
]

I hung out with a raven for years.

I think I'd rather believe it didn't know that biting me was wrong, or stealing my food.

well... whatever floats your boat then, i guess

Ah, well. I think that's where the bit about opening your eyes comes into play.

It's a deliberate phrasing. They could have just said "birds know north by instinct".

But instead they said "they just need to open their eyes" -- and then repeated themselves. It's what leads me to believe they want us to uncover the truth about something.

[Or so his theory goes anyway.]
998: (this is hard)

[personal profile] 998 2019-06-26 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
But it's telling us to open our eyes instead of using a compass--to rely on our senses instead of machines.

I'm here to agree with Loki. I believe you're on the right track.

And don't sell yourself short. Sometimes being fresh to a situation means that you can be more objective. Personally, I'm always happy when we hear from someone new.

Well, I'm certainly happy to make the attempt!

As I've said, I do think it's about uncovering the truth in the matter. I think it also has something to do with these messages that several people I see have received just recently as well. The timing can't be coincidental.

I've been compiling a list from this thread and have managed to come up with three. Do we know if there are any more than that?
strove: (ok I unsure at myself a lot too)

Someone set up another place to gather them. I think we'd all appreciate your input.

There are definitely some new ones there -- thank you for pointing me in their direction. I'll see what I can do.

Thank you. This will help a lot.

We tend to get rowdy on here. I know we're chatty right now, but "rowdy" is when things really get lost in the mix.

I'm well familiar with the issue, it's no trouble.

I worked with a team back home, we were much the same. It's just that when there's only five of you, it's a lot easier to keep track of things. With a group this size...

I'm going to need to keep notes.
