@abel.navigator

Hello everyone,

Unless I’ve missed something in the past hour or so, it seems like our network hasn’t been compromised by whatever has caused this massive security failure. I have at least five messages in my inbox that I’m certain aren’t for me, but everything seems clean here.

I think, as the group of people with the (apparently) only properly functioning network (and various talents, in a manner of speaking), we’re obligated to use it to organize ourselves and assist. The entire city is facing more problems as a result of this breach than I’ve ever seen before from one event. If you’re not particularly interested in helping those that could be trapped in cars or victims of accidents right now, consider that the external temperature has been rising. I don’t know about everyone else, but I’m personally certain that once it gets around 55C I’m going to start dying.

The network has apparently been used before to coordinate teams of Displaced, let everyone know what’s needed and who to meet with, and I suggest we do it again. I’ll keep an eye on this and provide hotlinks to pertinent discussions, so anyone with particular skills or interests can volunteer themselves.

Stay safe everyone. Don’t spend too much time in the heat without decent protection, you can only help so much if you pass out in the middle of it.

I was under the impression that they weren't fond of humanity as a whole, government or otherwise.

Pitting the government against us could be an aim to take out both of their problems in one go or to create a war amongst humanity while they wait in the wings. But I only guess at what their true aim is.

It makes sense.
The Senate knew Caesar's popularity among the people meant they were losing power.
"The falling sickness." Caesar rose, and they felt they were beginning to fall.

Humanity wiped them the AI out when they were beginning to have power in their own independence.
I'm not surprised that they would want it back. Even at the cost of us all.

But if that's the case, what are the chances that they've resurfaced after hundreds of years?
The people here are terrified of them. It could be that DAWN is more than they claim to be.

It could be that DAWN is simply a human hoping to leverage this into their own rise to power at the expense of the people of New Amsterdam.

Without more information it would be best to keep every option on the table.

Humanity wiped out the AI of this world because the latter chose to fight. The spark that begun the conflict was a violent one, which led into a war with too many lives lost.

Yes, it makes sense that they would want it back. But not all of us would subscribe to the idea of killing so many to achieve this.

Violent means have violent ends, and spilled blood earns spilled blood in return.

Others might be above revenge, but not everyone. Sometimes, people feel the need to fight just to exist in the world.
Human or AI. Desperation in anyone usually brings violence, not peace.

I'm not saying it's the only possibility, but we need to be ready for anything.
Whoever they are, what they do next will determine whether they want to make themselves our allies or our enemies.

And I agree with all of that. I only wanted to clarify that if DAWN is an AI, and not just someone pretending to be, then they're not representative of the race as a whole. Not all of us subscribe to the philosophy of an eye for an eye.

And because what they do next will be so defining, it's all the more reason why getting in touch with them is paramount, before another action is made against this city.

[ 'Not all of us.' There's that phrasing again. This time, Octavia chalks it up less to poor wording and interprets it as a more deliberate acknowledgment of who — what — Markus is. ]

Tell the people of this world that.

[ But that aside: ]

If they want to be found, they will be.
We just have to find out what message they're trying to send first.

Given the opportunity, I would.

[But it's difficult in this world; the fear of AI ingrained in a tragic history impossible to erase. Markus knows that, yet seeing this -- whether it's a true AI or not -- goes against the grain of all he was trying to achieve in Detroit. It settles against his spirit unwell.]

I think we can agree that this is more a message to us than it is to the people of NA.
