@catra.victorious
What's the deal with your surname? If you have one. We don't have them, where I'm from. I'm not stupid, for what it's worth-- I don't need the concept explained to me. I know they're just... family names, or whatever.
I just wanna know... what does yours mean, I guess. If it has a meaning. Where did it come from. If you don't have one, how did you... I don't know, choose yours, when you got here?
Anyway I guess I was gone for a bit, now I'm back, don't make a big deal about it.

[ the fight finally drains out of her, voice small. ]
I don't know who I am without She-Ra or some kind of...purpose or mission or--or destiny or whatever. I feel so lost, Catra.

And even if I could tell you what you had to do-- how would that be any different from Shadow Weaver, or your... freaky blue hologram lady, telling you what to do?!
The idea is that you decide what you want to do. Y'know! For yourself!

[ She's like a ship without an anchor, threatening slowly but surely to float off. ]
But we... Catra, we--
[ And for as frustrated as Catra is with hr now, Adora is completely sincere as she asks-- ]
We can figure out what to do next together. Right?

What--
[ She seems to hesitate. ]
Is that... what you want?
[ It sounds like she's half genuinely asking, half insecure. ]

[ And though the situation is so complicated, it makes something ache in Adora to know that after all their years together and their plans, enough damage has been done to make Catra doubt. ]
Anything I do, I want to do it with you at my side. That could never change.

Then... yeah. I don't... really know what I want to do either.
[ It's why she'd made the whole stupid network post to begin with. ]
But... figuring it out together doesn't sound so bad.

[ and now, Adora grows tentative. it's a potentially explosive subject to bring up to Catra, when she doesn't know everything that has happened to Catra in the time she disappeared. ]
We can make a new promise. One without the Horde or the Rebellion or...anyone else to interfere. Just us, here.

Catra looks at Adora for a moment like those are the only words she's ever wanted to hear. ]

Adora. Shadow Weaver. Scorpia. ]
... No. No more promises.
[ It hurts too much when people break them. ]
1/3
She looks so painfully hopeful. ]
2/3
The feeling of her heart falling into her stomach is almost physical and for a moment the only thing she can think is...of course.
What else should she have expected? Adora had already messed up once. It was stupid to think Catra would be willing to go that far, put that much trust in her ever again.
Stupid, stupid Adora. ]

[ She was okay. She was fine. Adora should be glad Catra is even willing to try being friends again after everything they've been through. It'd be selfish to ask for anything more. Catra has made her stance clear and Adora will respect it.
But she can't be here right now, not with this sudden misery and rejection bubbling in her chest.
There's a strangled quality to Adora's voice as she says it. As she feels the burn of tears, Adora shoots up from the couch, half-running to their shared room in what is supposed to look non-hurried but definitely doesn't. It's easy to grab the few outfits she has and start stuffing them in a backpack. ]
Um, a-anyway, Glimmer asked if she could move in with us since we have the spare cot and she doesn't like living alone. I was going to talk to you about it, but I figured since you had your truce, it should be fine.
[ It takes her less than a minute to pack and slip her shoes on and she's heading for the door before Catra can get a word in edgewise. ]
I'll be over at her place for a few days helping her pack.
[ And with that, Adora is out the door without so much as a goodbye. ]

[ She can barely process all the information, it's happening so fast. ]
That's not-- Adora!
[ The door closes in her face. ]

Fine. Whatever. Be that way. I don't care.
[ She kicks a rogue stress ball lying about on the floor, and it bounces away sadly, before stalking into their room and flopping down on the bed, burying her face in the pillow. ]
