Yes, but to use the shooting analogy, you can't just practice wherever and whenever you want.
The monster attacks weren't that long ago and you got some practice in then; is there a reason why you can't give it a little more time, or alternatively just practice on more minor injuries? Something potentially fatal just seems like kind of an unnecessary risk.
I don't think he's wholly wrong, you know. I'm aware it's dangerous, that is why I asked for volunteers, and I understand why he is opposed to it as a doctor, it goes against his calling.
I know where the medi-unit is, I know where the clinic is, I know where not to stab. Risk is necessary, but it seems less dangerous to discover the limits of my abilities where there isn't a worldwide disaster inundating the hospitals and clinics with patients than to hope it stands up to whatever this Force forsaken planet throws at us next.
There's definitely merit to the idea of practicing and discovering your limits in a situation that's more controlled. It's still a question of risk versus reward, but you seem to have thought it through and ultimately I can't really tell you it's not worth it.
[He can't exactly say he supports the idea either, but he'd been most concerned with at least bringing up alternatives and making sure she'd considered the risks. But it seems like she has, and she is indeed only asking for volunteers, and it's not like he can stop her.]
I appreciate that, so I guess I'll just register my official stance as 'cautiously objecting'.
That said I do understand that testing a healing power is difficult in a way a lot of other abilities aren't, and practice is just as important for that skill as for others.
[That's a mood; Lance can't say he doesn't like socializing--obviously, considering his main profession as a psychologist which is inherently social--but there's definitely a hard limit as far as the amount.]
Understandable. I wonder if there's some way around having to use this particular method in the future, though.
[He doesn't know if there is and can't think of something off the top of his head, but it goes on the list of stuff to look into. He also has to ask--]
Do you know if your power works on yourself?

I know of someone else with that power here too, though I'm not sure they want to be named.
[So he won't, but might as well let her know there's someone out there who might be a particularly good choice for the stabbing practice. Said someone has already volunteered too, so hopefully they'll mention their ability at... Some point...]
I think one of the proposed projects from Clarke's post was about listing our powers for reference, though that would be on volunteer basis only. Still, it might help people coordinate if they are willing to share.

Doctors practice of corpses but my power doesn't work on dead people.

It is the only ability I can't practice without the help of another person or I would. I don't like socializing.

[ she would absolutely stab herself first but alas. ]

Hopefully it will. People's healing powers seem to vary pretty widely from what little I've seen.
