@kyna.medina

so everyone knows shit sucks right now
since i've been here i've seen a lot of talk about what we should do, but it seems like everyone has a different idea
some people want to start superhero teams and some people want to require training for everyone new who shows up
some of us want to go public, some don't, some people trust morningstar and some people think they're shady
some people are just saying "fuck it" and think we should worry about ourselves
you know, all that shit

so i guess i just wanted to crowdsource
get everyone's thoughts in one place or whatever
because it seems like fucked up shit keeps happening and since i got here, it's getting worse

this is probably going to start a whole argument about how much responsibility we even have when we've just been dragged here without a choice
or people saying no one should expect us to act as a group but
idk
here's your chance to be all opinionated
go

If they're hiring

Look outside
There are monster corpses in the streets, the city's infrastructure is in ruins, the economic backlash from all of this is going to be intense, and that's BEFORE you factor in a complete lack of stable government to help steer things strategically into recovery.

If we don't course correct, or if political tensions escalate to the point of physical violence like World War 2, I'm not sure how we're going to keep surviving

The world is already brutally fucking environmentally devastated
There are literally only about a hundred cities on the planet
Let that sink in
For perspective, America had about 19,500 in the 2010s

is that not just a thing people know

If people want to ride it out until we figure out time travel and universe hopping, that's their right. Nobody's obligated to get involved. Let them brush it off if they wanna, but the ability to criticize runs both ways. They're allowed to think and say what they want, so are we. There's that whole quote of freedom of speech doesn't mean freedom of people thinking you're an asshole.

Her people are our people now. I think we need to stop thinking of ourselves as separate and distinct just because of a weird physiological quirk that differentiates us, and the fact that we immigrated. Whether we want to leave or not, we're here. We have jobs and houses and we eat this food and we drink this water. Their rain is our rain, their pollution is our pollution. I know I for one plan to stay whether or not we figure something out, so this is my home, too.

An us vs. them mentality has never, ever been good at any point in history outside of high school sports. The Stanford Prison Experiment kind of proved that, despite there being 0 consequences and 0 rewards for it, it still descended into fucking madness.

We haven't died yet, but I think that's dumb fucking luck. We've only been here a year. Give it time. Nobody's immune to fucking up, even if these powers and the super hero experience has given most people a leg up.

I know I personally am only still alive because of Nate, not because I'm special. I think maybe you might only still be alive because I'm from fucking California. We're a super small percentage of the population, it's just statistics right now.

I think it's a bad mindset to try and stack one level of pain against another and rank them. I may be in a better place, but there are people here who's families are struggling or dying without them around to keep them safe. A lot of people not originally from here have lost their families in a way that's as permanent as death even if that's not the case.

I don't have a place to go back to.

It was you guys stuck in that simulation just like everyone else. The earthquake hit everyone. The monsters destroyed our homes, too. I lived in that safehouse. Everything I owned was there.

Suffering doesn't negate suffering.

I do miss Strawberry Açaí Refreshers and iced caramel macchiatos, but this is an okay consolation prize.

Thanks, man. I mean it.
But I wanna be able to walk around naked again.

I might swing both ways but even I know some dude walking around with his dick just out while he's manspreading on a couch isn't an attractive sight.

If I could make out with a series of text posts I would pick these ones.

Not that I'm offering. Just underlining that it was a very good read.

Anyway I agree with everything you said is what I meant in the most inappropriate way possible. Morningstar should hire you as PR! If they're hiring people who just like hitting things a lot like me, they could likely use someone with an actual brain.

I was in a city with two extremist points of view and the people who suffered for it inevitably were the people trying to live their lives and not get involved in the inevitable (literal) explosion and attempted genocide. So. The thinking of us vs. them is a dangerous road and this is our home for now so we might as well treat it like we would our own.

I don't think hiring a PR person is in their to-do list or maybe even their budget. Until it is, I'll just be annoyingly vocal to the displaced that have to deal with my walls of text.

Where I'm from, the world ended. War after war, democrat vs. republican political parties, America vs. Russia, in the end none of it mattered. When we lost, we ALL lost. At least here we have some control over how the future plays out.

I'm sorry to hear that about your world. It's not an easy thing to live with, I imagine, I'm still not over my city being wrecked and it's only one.

I was raised to think that those with power or ability should try to help those without it. It's not always the easiest route or the one that makes the most sense, but it's difficult to walk away from a monster fight like that and not see the sheer size and scope of how many civilians need help here. Damn our own issues, that has to mean more.

A city can feel like your entire world. It's pretty close.

You're exactly right.
