Are you from a place where there aren't any humans?

It's not that. I'm a youkai, and a god's familiar. Neither of those should be interacting with humans. For the most part, I stay inside my master's shrine.

The last time I had contact with humans was... a little over five centuries ago. Back when I was a wild fox, I used to hunt them, if they were willing to put up a fight.

How does a fox become a youkai? And I've never heard of a god having a familiar. How did that happen?

Unfortunately, I believe this world could either regrow my tongue or find me a suitable cybernetic replacement. That's one lesson about the humans here, I suppose. They're far more resilient than you've likely known them to be.

All of it, if I'm expected to blend in here. I can't possibly think the same way as a human would, but at the very least, I might be able to learn how to act as though I do.

That only complicates things! Manners are one thing, I bow my head to royalty and kami all the time -- but how am I to know which aspects of humanity are important to imitate if all of it is fake?!

That's kind of a broad question. What part of being human do you need to know about?

I have to be able to convincingly pose as one here, so whatever is necessary for that. The last time I had any real experience with humans was 500 years ago, back when you mostly cared about survival. When I used to hunt your kind.

Things are more complicated now, from what I've seen. I wouldn't have any idea how to integrate with that sort of lifestyle.
