you know, i had this whole list of questions that i was going to pose to the network, both for answers and to get people thinking. guess i'm going to have to do some back reading again before that happens

but i do have a couple things i'd really like answers to i'm going to throw out there now

1a. how many other people have mysteriously up and disappeared?
1b. how many people have come back?
1c. of the people who have come back, do any have any memory of the time they were gone?
2. do we have any way to trace the locations of people via the implant? not like a gps, more like a "this credit card was used here" sort of trace
3a. is there anyone who can take a blood sample and get it processed? idk if i was dosed with anything but i definitely do not remember leaving the apartment or coming back, and my chest is kinda burning a little, so i think i might have been
3b. anyone here have access to magic currently or had access to it in the past? i want to cover all my bases
4. who wants to help me figure out how many drinks it takes to get me soused later?

It was beautiful.

[ her voice and gaze both go a little distant. ]

Some of it was similar to Earth. We had trees and grass. Mountains and oceans. But my favorite place outside the cities were the firefalls. [ she smiles. ] And yes, that's exactly what is sounds like.

It was. It was like all the good things about a bonfire, but bigger and moving even more. And there was a plant that grew on the cliff sides--bloodblooms. Their sap was an accelerant and when they burned, it smelled spicy and sweet and the same time.

[ the smile on her face dims a little. ]

I've seen a lot of things in the multiverse, but so far nothing quite like that.

[ its an unbelievable thing that's completely and utterly true. ]

[ It's a grim thought. That everything you held deal could be pulled away in an instant -- Damian had done his fair share of that to other people in his youth. As part of his trials. ]

I'm sorry its gone. [ ... ] I know it means little, but I am.

[ her heart aches, but it's a bittersweet ache. not all terrible, and not all good. ]

You know, you're the first person who's ever said that to me. [ she gets it. by the time she showed up, the news about krypton was decades old. no one thought about how close it was for her. ] It means a lot.

[batricide]

[ that's horrible.

it's horrible that he, of all people is the first one to acknowledge that loss. He doesn't know what to say to that, so he settles for just giving her hand an awkward squeeze. ]

[crisised]

[ maybe it is horrible. but it's life, and she's learned to deal with it. and anyway-- ]

I didn't mean for that to take such a heavy turn. [ she looks a little sheepish. ] Believe it or not, that was an attempt to tell you something cool most people would find weird and implausible.

[batricide]

Don't worry about it. [ because, well, he's not one to judge. ] I think I currently hold the record for turning light conversations heavy anyway.

[ more seriously, though. ]

I wish I could have seen it. Everything I've heard makes it sound like quite the sight.

[crisised]

It wasn't perfect--no place is--but it was beautiful. And it was home.

It's not the same, but... I feel that way about al Ghul Island.

[ that... is something she's pretty sure doesn't exist in her world. but on the other hand, she would not be surprised if it did. ]

It was one of the strongholds I was raised in. I spent most of my time there.

[ He leans back a bit, looking to the ceiling. ]

It - and the sanctuary in South America - were both beautiful, filled with wildlife that Earth no longer has. Both are gone now. Along with Wayne Manor.

[ though the latter he'd torched himself. ]

But nothing can take the memories. For all the good and bad they bring.

[ for a moment, she's surprised. it's not the same kind of loss, but it's similar enough. he gets it in a way no one else has before.

kara shifts so she can sit a little closer to him, shoulder to shoulder with her hand still holding him. ]

Tell me about it? What was your favorite part of it?

[batricide]

[ He's talked about this with Kate a little. With Noctis. But not in depth. And not with someone so close. He's vaguely aware of his face heating, something he tries to brush off. ]

Ra's collected endangered species from all over the world - creatures beyond imagination, in some cases. Creatures humanity reduced to the corners, before eliminating completely... I used to spend my spare time watching the Bali Tigers.

[ how can he talk about home, though? ]

The view of the ocean was breathtaking. I used to sail when the weather allowed it. [ or when missions sent him out. ] And the gardens were beyond imagination.

[crisised]

[ she notices that blush. don't think she doesn't, even if she's nice enough to not mention it. ]

That sounds wonderful. [ to say the least, really. ] Especially the animals.

[ she has a soft spot for animals. with one exception. ]

Sometimes I can't believe the only animal left from Krypton is Krypto, of all things.

[batricide]

I don't think Darkseid himself could kill that thing.

[ It's spoken fondly, despite the word choice. ]

[crisised]

[ kara pulls a face. krypto hates her and the feeling is mutual. ]

You can say that again. That mutt is ridiculous.

[batricide]

I tolerate him to a point. When he crawls in my bed in the middle of the night and knocks me aside with a wing I draw the line.

[crisised]

[ cue her brain doing a record scratch. ]

... Wing?

[batricide]

[ Okay, now he looks at her. ]

He has two of them, doesn't he? [ And scales. And claws. And spines. ]

[crisised]

Not... in my world? [ she is so confused. ] He's just. A dog.

[batricide]

Can he fly?

[crisised]

Yeah. His cells process sunlight the same way Kal's and mine do.

[batricide]

[ okay, hold on. He's going to find some drawing app to sketch out what he knows the dog to look like. Give him a minute

[ she blinks. blinks again.

then groans and slouches on the couch. ]

Why does your Krypto look so much cooler than mine? The one back home is just a white dog in a cape, and he hates me.
