we ought to get ourselves to the northern continent of the americas






[[ooc: HI this is Thor putting out there the idea of getting to North America. This was first raised in an ooc discussion post, but it's good to get characters talking about the idea and figuring out how/if people who want to can help the effort.

Please use this network post for group discussion, I'm not planning to have Thor respond to everyone! Contribute your characters ideas for getting there and how etc. Just because Thor wants to take a boat doesn't mean it's the best idea! (see the plot engagement thread for the mods' thoughts on what might work best)

Basically, if we can get a few of the displaced to the shores of NA, another gate can be set up to allow everyone else to go if they want to explore and find stuff out.

i've made the journey myself on a handful of occasions. the atlantic is wide and deep, but if those brave in heart have a sound ship beneath their feet, then the journey can be made

I have agreed to go, and I am ready for any journey. But I do not have a way to aid us in getting there.

It seems it would be easier to find a ship than the means to build one, but even that is no easy task.

A number of us have discussed settling in North America once we've done all that we can for this world. My plans involve it exclusively, but I was going to put off visiting. I was advised that I was thinking it would be fine too much by someone (Loki), but I think it's a good idea.

I've also been of the opinion that if we ever need to hide somewhere, North America is our best bet. Creating an escape route with a gate would be a good idea. We don't know when mindsets will turn against us.

Right now, it's unsettled land. And my people and I have experience in dealing with a post-nuclear America. I think we can help where that help could be needed.

All that comes down to: I'm in. I can't help with getting there, but I can help with plans once we are there. We can even come up with them in advance, as long as we have a good grasp of the geography there (topological and otherwise).

You know I'm there. We also have enough relics to make more gates if we get into any trouble. Or, optimistically, if we find something there worth jumping back and forth to.

I have gone sailing but I don't know how personally how to sail. It does seem like taking a boat might go under the radar more than a plane.

What if something is there that it’s worth keeping out? I am going. I am of more use on this journey than sitting here in New Amsterdam. But we don’t want to bring any more creatures into the cities.

If we can get there, I'm going. The how is the question. Assuming we can even get a ship, what kind of resistance can we expect from the system here?

Perhaps a better and much closer starting point would be South America, off the coast of New Bogotá. It is the northernmost point of the habitable American continent, and if I understand the geography correctly, it would be faster than leaving from Europe should that be the route taken.

Regardless of method, the coastline is also being monitored by the UN. We will need to figure out some form of cover to remain undetected. Perhaps there are displaced powers that would help enable this?

Another consideration is maybe there is a way to travel under the water. I know the choice seems largely between flying and sailing, but the water itself could be a good cover. And there is a lot of water - looking out from near New Bogotá, it is just ocean, with very distanced and scattered islands.

We don't know how much of the States might be underwater anyway. A submarine's a good call if we could get our hands on one, presuming someone could drive it.

Just getting to the continent would be tricky, but going through South America's the most solid idea I've heard yet.

I'm pretty new to this, but from what I can tell, my power is detecting electromagnetic fields. I might be able to identify where they have hidden surveillance that way.
