@eugene.hicks
I don't have a horse in this race, but y'all expressed an interest in speaking with James Henries. On that account, Jason Todd stayed up on the moon to speak with him some and this is what he uncovered.
For organization's sake, I've arranged things according to topic. Forgive me, I ain't possessed of the soul of brevity.
James Henries:
Johann Grey:
Monsters:
Gods:
And for anyone of a mind to pester Jason for more, I would advise you don't. He's stuck his neck out enough for the lot of us, y'all can leave him be.
If there's any mistakes, they're mine alone. Feel free to correct me any which way. Any additional information would be welcome as well. Better to coordinate than not.
For organization's sake, I've arranged things according to topic. Forgive me, I ain't possessed of the soul of brevity.
James Henries:
He's a fella like us, that was once taken to a similar interdimensional nexus. This dimension happens his home, and after he returned here he set about trying to get back to where he'd been on account of missing a loved one. He's near abouts three hundred years old, and has been transferring his consciousness between clone bodies in that time, courtesy Giles Bell and some manner of advanced tech. He lives on the moon with a whole passel of birds. Frankly, after the Aerie I don't think I'm of a mind to have much to do with birds ever again, but he clearly don't share that stance. His goal was to find a power source that could tear through dimensions. He says he destroyed a god, but doing this broke it — I know some of you are aware of this fact already, so bear with me — and it 'splintered' into pieces. These pieces seem to have brought us here and gave us powers, the blue glow and the empathy bond we're all so fond of. The first folks that wound up here got experimented on. Some of them died. He apparently didn't seem to feel a whole lot of remorse over that. We arrive in the Mariana Trench. There's an automated system put in place to retrieve our unconscious bodies. After we're delivered to New Amsterdam (primarily, anyhow) and we go and pick up the new arrivals, Morningstar helps us get situated. This ain't an official partnership, Henries doesn't seem to know much about Morningstar himself.
Johann Grey:
Grey makes a point of being bankrolled by wealthy corporations the world over. Odds are, he's the most powerful man alive right now. The fella that snaps his fingers so's things get done. Happens to look like Henries, which Henries seemed not to like. Clone body thing, I suppose. Henries says Grey stole his face, though this seems like a more recent development. Lord only knows what the man looked like before. Grey's been at his game 'about half a millennia' or so, which pegs him as the older of the two. Grey and Henries were working on Project Spinetail together, which was Henries' efforts to harness the power of a god, and Grey's to awaken one, near as we can tell. Seems like they ain't been in contact since that all went to Hell. Henries ain't got a clue how to track him down, so there likely ain't no recourse there. Cassius seems to be the source of any further information about Grey.
Monsters:
Some of the monsters belong to Grey, but not the ones we saw most recently. Henries seems to be of the opinion they didn't have Grey's 'signature'. This is my personal thought, but if we've got fragments from the Blue god, it stands to reason that Grey's interference with the Gold one might be what's bringing them about.
Gods:
There's seven of them, in theory, called different things by different cultures throughout history. Each seems to be associated with a color. Blue we know, they're the one Henries and Grey used as I touched on already up yonder. Gold is also a safe bet, given our recent experience in the Aerie and Antarctica, not to mention those dreams we had a while back with soldiers and the like with the gold eyes. Anyone with the Kestrels ought to know that using our powers there resulted in a golden glow rather than the standard blue just as well. Other colors we've seen associated with the gates that we can probably reasonably assume also correspond to a god are red, black, white, green and orange, which corresponds to what some folks heard in the Aerie — that the Cardinals got their powers by chaining six out of seven of them. There's also the murals popping up around the city that seem to show the very same.

[She had already read Jason's broken down version of most of this, but it's good to have it in one place.
She'd tell Jason thank you publicly, but ... he hates her, as already addressed.]

I get along with most everyone, Clarke, that in itself ain't saying much.
You all right?
( that's just deprecatin' enough a statement he is somewhat worried for her. for all that she said she was fine comin' on outta the sim, he doesn't hold that to be true. )

And thank you, Jason. Seriously.
Unless anybody has any objections I think we can push the pause button on operation haul ass to the moon. We got a guy, seems like we can crutch it for a while.
Don't get me wrong, I'm still all for sticking a gate up there eventually, but we don't have to blow our whole load on it.

@nathan.drake
- you said grey started using henries' face recently. i'm assuming that's post-spinetail, in the last couple years?
- if we arrive in the trench, how the hell do we get down there? how the hell does henries get us back out? i'm a professional diver, gene, and there's more than 16000 PSI at the bottom of the mariana trench. it takes a fraction of that to give people severe barotrauma.

we survive long enough for him to nab us with his fancy schmancy tech

[He's still incredibly annoyed with this whole situation, but at least there's something to work with. Nate's already addressing what he'd wondered first, so he'll fixate on some other issues.]
So although Henries' motives make sense, how did he find out about these gods, and what exactly did he do to end up destroying it? Additionally, what happened with the god--presumably the gold one--that Johann was after?
Was it just those two they thought were there? What about the other five?
What was the point of the experimentation he did on the first arrivals, and when was that? Before the people we know of as the first of the Displaced arrived?
I find it unlikely he would've given up on his quest after a few hundred years, despite this setback, so is he still working on his plans? If so, what is looking into doing next?
I don't expect answers to any of these questions, just for the record.
[They're just to see if anyone else might have information or ideas that could put something together.]
@jason.todd
2) spinetail was a machine he built to destroy it
3) fuck if I know
4&5) fuck if i know
6) he wanted to get what was in us out of us. it doesn't work
7) shortly before morningstar found group number one on a bus they thought was full of weapons
8) does anyone really ever give up on a goal like that?

Also, I wanna see some pictures of the people he experimented on. Implant recordings. Whatever. They could be our people. Some of us have kids.
( has he admitted that publicly before? not sure, he isn't thinking clearly, he's just latching on to reasons to be pissed about stuff lately. )

To clarify - is Henries still searching for a means to cross dimensions, despite having broken this god? Has it been suggested that he stop?
And if he refuses, what do we intend to do about it?
@jason.todd
he's aware he fucked up
and we can't do much about it regardless, since he's damn near close to immortal

thanks jason
so it's totally magic, and they're totally gods
thank god we can stop arguing about that
no pun intended
i think we need to learn how to really use our powers
we've been stumbling along through most of this
but if they're as powerful as it sounds, i bet we could do a lot with them
@clarke.griffin
I don't have powers from my world, though. It's probably a factor in how I conceptualize it.

i'm tired
i'm hammered
and i'm sick of your shit but for transparency's sake so nobody yells at me more later:
jimmy said he'd be willing to open up contact to a short list of trustworthy people among our number
think the asshole likes and trusts me for some stupid reason, hell if i know
but he's trusting me not to throw him into the wolves' den, and i have a feeling fucking up now means he'll close himself off from us again
because he's a coward
so here's my list. a short list, as requested
object or agree, argue to get added onto it, whatever
i'll get back to you when i feel like it
i've got room for one more person that i haven't picked out myself

Stephen isn't back yet. I'm not saying he's a bad choice, but he might not be in the position or mindset yet to speak to Jimmy upon return. On the other hand, he might appreciate the distraction from what happened. It's something to factor in.
Again, that's not to say it should be me. I know I rub people the wrong way. ["I rub you the wrong way, Jason."] But we might want to make sure Stephen's ready to accept it. He's a good choice for all of us. There's just that factor to keep in mind, and we may want an alternate to step in if it's too much for him upon return.
[She hopes it sounds more like she's advocating on Stephen's behalf. The simulation was hard on him. But this? And everything he's responsible for? And how he'll recall it?
Clarke's worried for him, to say the least.]
