[ He catches Jason's wrist, prying it free. ]

( there's no real pressure to his hand; damian can pull all he wants. jason won't fight it. )

You love animals. All of them. To the point when you saw one being mistreated and went vegetarian. You don't know how to respond to people showing you attention, but you try your best anyway. Hell, you even take care of me. No one's managed that one for long.

[batricide]

That's not who I am.

[ He keeps his voice flat and neutral. He does love animals - he does, but he was never permitted them. Just as he was never permitted with other children. Too dangerous. Too much of a risk. Too much like his mother. ]

I'm not the same boy you knew.

[reneger]

You're not thirteen year old Damian Wayne anymore, I know.

( he's different but very much the same. closer to how damian was when bruce first got him than--what he grew into. it's another important detail to remember: this one didn't have nice things. didn't have dick to balance him out. )

But your heart's the same.

[batricide]

I'm not the same person.

[ His jaw tightens, there's a hot flare of anger. ]

I'm not a vegetarian, for one. Ra's runs [ ran ] a sanctuary for endangered animals. Who doesn't care for them?

[reneger]

Good, 'cause the moment I get enough to buy some real goddamn meat, we're having hamburgers.

( he'd respect damian's decision not to eat them and eat both instead but REGARDLESS. )

You're still my baby brother. 's all that matters to me.

[ ugh. ]

Very well.

[reneger]

You know what they say. . "the blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb".

( not brothers by blood but brothers by a stronger bond. )

Even if you're not thirteen and leaving crowbars in my bed, I still know your heart. You can't hide that shit from me.

I left a crowbar in your bed?

[ that was sweet but okay what. ]

[reneger]

You said you wanted to prove you could beat all three previous robins. So you took us on one by one. Broke into my safe house, tucked a crowbar into my sheets, and waited tucked away in the ceiling for me to walk in and find it.

( lleaning back down onto the couch, now. they've had enough touching. )

Can you get me a beer out of the fridge?

[batricide]

Ha. That does sound like something I'd do.

[ He gets up and heads over to the fridge, grabbing a beer - these taste terrible? why would you drink them? and heads back over, sitting back down a comfortable distance away. ]

[reneger]

( reaching a hand out for the beer, please hand it over yes thank you. )

Then you kicked my ass, in my own home, and stole my hood. And my bike.

Living with my father was not good for my temper.

[ Yeah yeah take your fucking futuristic swill. ]

I tried to stab you the first time I met you.

[reneger]

( thank you he loves it. there's a pause as he holds the bottle, before jason's slamming the corner of the cap against the coffee table, popping it open and tipping it into his lips. )

My temper wasn't great back then either. ( not much better now, but he's trying. ) I wanted to be something I'm not, we all saw how that worked out.

[batricide]

I already told you - my father is delusional. It's impossible to meet his standards. Even if you've trained since birth. Even if you're blood.

[ He won't get a beer, but he will get up again to root through Loki's fridge for food. ]

[reneger]

Tim and Dick got 'em.

( he's not talking for damian back home. not to this one. that's just fucking rude. )

But none of us're a second Dick Grayson.

[batricide]

Dick was a different story.

[ Dick was my son. Now you're dead to me too. ]

He likes people who follow orders. Tim followed orders. He doesn't like to be questioned. The second you agree to follow his every word is the second your slate is wiped clean. But toe out of line and he'll throw you out without blinking.

[reneger]

Sounds like he isn't worth the wasted breath you're giving him. Save it, maybe.

( they don't need to talk about bruce. not when it's such a sore spot for damian. jason puts down the bottle, raises a hand up to cross his arm behind his head. )

Neither of us'll ever be Dick. 's not a bad thing.

[batricide]

It doesn't matter. He doesn't matter. If he shows up here I'll deal with him myself.

[ He cards his fingers through his hair, grunting. It doesn't matter - he could talk about his old man all the ways he was done wrong all day and not get tired of it, because someone's listening. Someone outside Clark and Diana. Someone who felt that scorn. ]

He was his own kind of hero. No point in even trying to follow that circus act.

[reneger]

What if it's not your B? What if it's one that's different?

( like. jason's not one for defending bruce wayne's actions, but he wouldn't want damian taking all this shit out on his own. bruce may have beaten the living shit out of him but. jason kind of deserved it. he's not angry about that. )

You gonna wail on someone who hasn't earned it?

It depends. If it's the one who came into my universe and ruined it I might just settle for crippling him.

[reneger]

What if it's the one from my universe?

( what if it's one who had nothing to do with damian's mess. )

I'll break his arm for breaking yours. If he deserves more, I'll give him more.

( just making that clear. it's not terribly important, but. )
