You know he always held my upbringing against me? [ He thinks. He's never sure, but. ] He always watched me. No matter what I did. Like he was waiting for me to start breaking everything vulnerable around me. We never had any animals in the manor. And Ra's let me interact with his collection. I was never good enough. It didn't matter if Tim thought it, or any of the other members of the League - it was different coming from him. It felt like it made it more true, or that I deserved it.

( voice softer, sitting back up to try and drag damian in. press him close. tell him the kind of bullshit jason never got but always wanted to hear. )

[ Stop with the hugging. He lets himself be dragged, bristling and radiating annoyance. ]

My point is that he doesn't do right by anyone who needs him. Bruce didn't raise me, the League of Assassins did, but he considers himself to be the authority of everything I am and will be. [ He scoffs. ] Which he's most likely done to you as well. And he's wrong.

You're better than all of us, D. That's what's important. ( that damian's sense of self isn't fucked over thanks to bruce. ) What B thinks doesn't matter.

Would you stop singing my praises and focus on yourself? [ He reaches out, grabs Jason's wrist. Lets him feel the confidence in his words and the admiration, which is chased by embarrassment at such a raw display of emotion. ] I'm fine. Superman was more a father to me than Bruce ever was.

( willing empathy links means he's--getting better at this, at least. getting closer to breaking through to damian and god, the emotional flood is strange as hell. having shit like admiration felt towards him.

jason's a lot less well off. there's the sinking depression, concern, but--so much love. he loves damian so much, even if he's shit at the words. )
