So he's there. Dressed in flame retardant clothing underneath his usual no-skin-touchable black cyberpunk getup. ]

[ in contrast, kara's chilling in a crop top and the cyberpunk equivalent of jogger pants, completely unafraid of accidental physical contact and sprawled out along the rooftop as if it could actually be comfortable. she looks a little ridiculous, honestly. ]

[ but she proposed this whole thing so. he's in good company, at least. ]

Hmmm... [ kara draws out the sound, tapping a finger against her bottom lip in an overblown show of thinking. ] What's your favorite memory?

[ He blinks.

He'd been expecting... Something else. Something about the Justice League, or the League of Assassins, or - well, something other than that.

[ Suddenly this seems like a lot less of a good idea. His arms fold over his chest. ]

A day before Metropolis was destroyed we had a garden party to celebrate Alfred's birthday. It wasn't the right date, but it was the closest we ever got to it.

[ she takes a moment to mull it over, really consider her answer. ]

There was a night, a while before Kal was born. Uncle Jor and Aunt Lara came to visit. Brainiac hadn't taken Kandor yet and Thara, my best friend and sworn-sister, was spending the week at my house. It was a simple night. Nothing special about it, really. But... it was one of the last times I had all my family around me and happy.

[ it's not the answer she expects (kara has no idea what she was expecting, really) but it makes sense, from what she knows of his world. his bruce.

it's clear that damian's not a very tactile person, both from how he dresses and how he holds himself. but kara is. and he hasn't reacted too badly to her touching him in the past, so she takes a risk. sits up and shuffles over so she can lean a bit of her weight against his legs. ]

[ he tolerates it for a moment, then steps aside and sits down across from her. ]

What was the most jarring thing about adapting to Earth life?

[crisised]

[ she is cool with that because it's actually not that comfortable to sit like that. ]

The lack of a rigid caste system and differing views on family. On Krypton, your house often designated what guilds you could join, and your guild was part of who you were. There was a hierarchy to both houses and guilds, for better or worse.

[ A slow nod. That he gets as well - bloodlines were often important to the League, after all. Who you were born to dictacted where you fell, and what your goals would be. ]

I hadn't imagined Krypton was so... [ don't say archaic don't say archaic don't say archaic ] strict.

It didn't seem like it was, and I may be making it sound worse. It was... just the way we had always done things.

[ her expression turns wry. ]

For all our focus on science and logic, and despite worshipping a goddess of rebirth through destruction, we were very... stuck in our ways.

[ He shrugs. ]

My family does follow a five hundred year old immortal who regularly takes baths in water that drives you mad. Tradition is difficult to break.

[ her nose crinkles as she says it, but then she remembers it's her turn. and her eyes light up with mischief. since he's sitting relatively comfortably and they've both answered a few things, time to test the waters with the kinds of questions she really thought of when this whole thing started. ]

What's your most embarrassing moment? Like, you could look back at it and possibly see some humor from an outside perspective, not one of the "that was so humiliating, it's going to haunt me until I die" moments.

[ He has to think about that for a minute. Because you know - there are a lot that are humiliating for terrible reasons. She's probably not looking for 'i was humiliated in combat' as an answer. ]

I attempted to take over the Watchtower's security systems when I was fourteen. Vic caught on and locked my personal computer down for about a week using some alien code I'd never encountered before.

[ victory. she laughs, equally delighted with the story and the fact that he didn't just blow off the question. ]

Oh, man. I can only imagine what a cocky little snot you must've been at fourteen.

[ Ha. Ha ha. ]

At fourteen? I was a total menace. Deservedly so. [ He leans back on his hands, looking up at the sky. ] I wanted in to make sure he didn't have any back doors - he did, by the way, but no one listened until we were hurtling towards Earth with no life support systems. [ SHRUG. ] So he might have gotten into my computer, but the team didn't; doubt me when I said 'this is something he would do, he's crazy' again.

[ there's a moment of silence as she digests the fact that his most embarrassing moment is also connected to the watchtower crashing towards earth. and because of vic...? what the hell is with his universe??

with a sigh and a mutter of cythonna's frozen [ word damian probably doesn't know because it's Very Rude ] in kryptonian, kara lays back down on the roof. ]

I think you live in the darkest timeline. [ ... ] It's your turn, too.

[ it wasn't anyone's fault. They'd never believed Bruce cold enough to threaten to kill his own son along with the rest of them. ]
