[ HA. kara smiles, trying not to grin as widely as she wants to. she figured that if she prodded him enough, he'd give in. and he really does need to lighten up. especially since he's getting a break from the darkest timeline. ]

Alright. If this is really a don't situation and not a can't, show me what you can do.

[ there's no music technically but WHO CARES it would only play through the implant anyway. ]

[ It's - a both situation, really. He knows the basics of dancing but has never actually had to, y'know, do it. ]

[ her eyes narrow as she thinks. nothing too hard, don't want to embarrass him too too much calling his bluff. but no middle school sway either. ]

Let's start with something simple. [ she takes his hands--holds onto one and puts the other on her waist before moving hers to his shoulder. ] I usually dance in clubs, but I'll be nice and we'll waltz first.

Even a simpleton can waltz.

[ Fine, fine, fine. He pretends like this isn't embarrassing and that he isn't vaguely flustered by doing something that isn't punching her lights out.

But he'll take the lead, maybe putting on some music via the neural implant so he doesn't feel like a complete idiot, and will lead her in a graceful waltz across the rooftop - mindful of that sharp drop. ]

I did say we were starting simply. [ she bites the inside of her cheek to keep from grinning wide. ] You waltzed right into some redundancy there.

[ this is kinda fun already, but the gentle teasing really bumps the enjoyment level up a notch. kara follows his lead easily enough, never stepping on his toes, and seeming completely unfazed by this whole thing.

it's after a couple minutes that she asks, ] Genre change?

[batricide]

[ he glares, but there's no heat behind it. that was also a terrible pun, why god, does everyone need puns. ]

Go ahead.

[crisised]

[ because people who don't like puns have the best reactions, that's why. ]

Alright. [ she switches up music on the implant. something less classic and more what she'd rock to back home. lots of thumping bass (that really isn't as good when it's piped into your brain and you can't feel it reverberate through your chest) and beats that get hips swaying. ] Think you're up for this?

[ Well this is A Leap. This is a challenge, though. And he doesn't back down from a challenge. He just might be pulling up reference material, thankful for the stupid brain implant as he adjusts to the pace. ]

[ she may or may not be trying to see how far she can push him. as one does when one is faced with someone similar to them who can't back down from a challenge.

... it's possible they're playing dance chicken. ]

Then let's go.

[ this is the part where kara would toss her hair if she had more than a scant few inches left. as it is, she shifts out of the classic ballroom posture and starts to dance. damian will fall in with her eventually. there's no hiding the fact that she really enjoys just moving to the beat, hips swiveling in perfect time. ]

A good dance is like a good fight or spar. [ her tone shifts, just a bit, from teasing into something a little more explanatory. ] Gets your blood pumping and everything moving in concert. And it's all the better if your partner can match you hit for hit.

well, whatever she's doing - he's matching her. he was trained to be the best so he's not missing a beat. ]

I understand the concept. I just don't see the need for it.

[crisised]

It's a way to de-stress that isn't violent but also boosts endorphin levels and deals nicely with cortisol production. Which is something most species find necessary, even if the exact chemicals aren't the same.

[ ... yes. yes, she is getting into nerd talk whilst dancing. this is why she has so few friends. ]

Plus, it's a communal activity. Makes your lizard brain happy and think you're bonding with other people.

[ That... that gets a little chuckle. Wow, you're an even bigger nerd than he is. ]

I don't need to bond with other people.

[crisised]

[ she got a laugh! that is almost a bigger victory than the dancing, honestly. ]

Tell that to your biology. [ cause you actually do in order to survive. sorry dude. ] Besides, this isn't so bad is it? We're bonding.

I mean this is different.

[ flatly. ]

You aren't just anybody. [ Which might be Damian for 'i don't mind being stupid with you' ]

[ the mildly exasperated expression on her face softens into something hopelessly fond. kara lets the music fade out into something a little quieter. ]

You're not so bad yourself.

That's just because you don't know me yet.

[ LOOK. A JOKE. ]

[ it may be a joke, but it's the kind of joke kara's not too fond of. mostly because of her own terrible self-esteem. which leaves her torn between being happy he's got a sense of humor and sad that he jokes so self-deprecatingly.

for the sake of the moment, she rolls with it. ] Nah. I think you'll probably be the one running once you get to know me better, not the other way around.

[ it's said lightly but. she kinda does think that. ]

[ ha. ha ha. a little bit of that humor drops. damian looks a little more somber. ]

I doubt that. [ He has a temper, he acts rashly. He does terrible things in fits of rage - but he knows better than to excuse them the way his father seems to. ] I'm not a good person, Kara.

[crisised]

I don't think so. [ she holds up a hand before he can protest. ] I don't know what you've done in the past. What mistakes you've made. I do know you care about people. About making sure innocents don't get hurt and people don't get killed when their deaths are preventable. Those aren't the values of a bad person.

[batricide]

[ He could come clean. Right then and there. Tell he all about the Regime, all about what they'd done. About Ra's plans to even the scales between humanity and nature. ]

Good and bad are more than just values.

[crisised]

You're right. They're in the choices you make. [ she tilts her head to the side. ] So choose to be good. And don't beat yourself up too much when you inevitably make a mistake.

And what if that line isn't so clearly defined?
