[ getting a message mid-workday advising of the location of one of the mystery kidnappers had definitely not seemed like the sort of thing that would come around again. ]
you?

As far as I'm concerned, it probably wasn't optional. People were possibly in there like that because of us.
[In a very, very round about way, her point is this: things got messed up afterward, but people were in that burning building, and they had a responsibility to help them. If that building was burning because of them, even more so.
It doesn't matter what came afterward.]

probably for the best, though
if we'd all gone in, who would have saved us?
[ begs the question: how many people was clarke pseudo-mothering when/wherever she came from? the instinct is too strong in her to be a new thing, daisy thinks. ]

And ... possibly the people who just got here. I would never ask that of them, though. Unless we had all gone there. Had all been there. We'll have to be more cautious in the future, aware of outcomes like this one.
[It's called Taking Care of Her People exclamation point exclamation point, through any means necessary.]

[ daisy is not the tactical head of shield, but she has the capability to think that way, given the opportunity and the incentive to do so. she's willing to sacrifice herself — and she's glad it was her taking the brunt of the rage gas, for lack of a better phrase — but she would prefer not to do so again. ]
if the next obstacle turns us into hulk machines, probably for the best we pick somebody bulky
any human tanks in the neighborhood?

Ideally, we'd know what interacted with us and everyone else to make that happen. And it won't be some kind of biological warfare that's meant to heighten our importance in some way. The longer we're here, the harder it'll be to keep off people's radars.
[Tactically, it makes sense.
Plus, people don't like difference. Don't like change. And in Clarke's mind? That's fair. Coming up against something like them could be justifiably terrifying.]
No chance you're hiding super strength in the wings?

mostly just tinker toys and wannabe lego powers
[ she imagines that these powers could prove useful in the future someday. if she trained on them, if she focused. the same way her powers back home became useful after months of study and hard work.
but in between new arrivals and burning buildings and interpersonal crises, she just hasn't had the time or the energy to do it. ]
i think we need to find out who these wannabe elves are that are dropping off people like christmas presents
the cameras were a good start but there's got to be more to it than that

There are identification numbers, right? I'd like to think that if we found a nurse's apartment, then we'd have looked into those.
[She says "we" as if she would ever join Morningstar. She won't. Still, she wants to know who's doing this for her own purposes.]
Here's an idea. What if we figured out the pattern to the drop offs themselves? There are trackers, right?
[Clarke doesn't know how a tracker would work, but she recalls the one in Anya's arm. Surely that can be done to a vehicle of some kind, yes? And if all the nurses die along the way to them getting information ... well.
That happens. They're Involved, anyway.]

[ ciri doesn't own the bike. it's a loan of sorts, allowed use as part of her job. it would make sense for the company to want to be able to track its location. daisy's not a hardware kind of girl, but she's lucky enough to have friends who could take a better look. ]
it seems like the drop-off spots change, though
how would we get close enough to a van to put the tracker on?

[A courier ...
Mark that down as a Suggestion for Murphy to take as a job.
Assuming he speaks to her again.]
Anyway, what I meant about the pattern. There's always something going on in this city. Our captors take advantage of that.
What if we placed our bets and tried to guess where people would turn up? These things have to be scheduled, right?
[Everything seems to be advertised or given away in some way, shape, or form. So, they can look at the pattern of timing.
Which seems ... questionable as a method ... for their captors, but Clarke won't pass up the chance to try.]

it's a good strategy
i worked with a group who used something like it
the more that's going on, the less likely something out of the ordinary pops on anyone's radar
[ rising tide had always relied on big events to release new code or to patch into hackjobs. with spikes in internet traffic distracting ips and security teams, the world never noticed anything unusual until it was all over. ]
is there a social committee or something? maybe we could send an eager volunteer, find out what's next on the agenda?

[For a girl who grew up in space, Clarke is sometimes weird about technology.
Or the internet.
Or money.
Mostly those two things.]

[ it might be just as simple as asking around. ]
i'll ask around at work, see if anyone's real gungho about these city parties
