So I know I can't be the only one who's had the unexpected pleasure of coming into possession of messages that aren't intended for my consumption. I'm not talking about you getting someone's private love letters or metaphorical cat video links, which I've gotten and deleted.

If I were back home, I'd be sliding this info to my nearest and dearest investigative journalist type. Since I'm not, well, I guess I've got to take matters in my own hands.

It's an interesting read, so, I'm just going to include the unedited details for all.

I wouldn't know any other kind of regime.

The government uses the UNA to control the population. That much is certain. This appears to be how they control the UNA soldiers. Perhaps gaby or [Bad username or site: margaret @ carter] might be able to better explain it.

I know what the message says. So what are we disagreeing on? What makes you think the UNA can't or won't use this tech on us, if it comes down to it?

Because they would have if they could have. And they haven't. That they felt the need to kidnap and question Morningstar agents for information is proof enough.

You sound as if you understand this technology even less than I do. They can't just 'use it on' us. It has to be installed. And perhaps it costs too much. Or perhaps the corporations wouldn't want it. They have as much power as any government here. Maybe more. It's likely to be one of them that makes the implants, and they're the ones overseeing their use.

And as for us, the displaced, we're not like to have gotten our implants from the UN or any approved sources. If we had we wouldn't need El to forge records for us. And I doubt they could keep something like this from someone like El in the first place. Not if it were in their own brain.

They could kidnap us and install this program, but death or capture at the hands of the UNA has always been a threat. That's why we go out of our way to avoid them, and why we built implant-scrambling masks in case we have no choice.

But I know little of this world, its technology and the powers ruling it. Perhaps someone more versed in its politics might be better able to tell you the difference between the UN, the UNA, and the technology corporations.

All right, well. You sound pretty confident that the whole thing's on lock, so I'll go ahead and cease all investigation into this matter at your recommendation. Just nobody say I didn't put it out there.

I never said I was confident in anything. You asked my reasons and I gave them. But if you want to investigate this or anything else about the UNA, you should learn more of the history first. That's my recommendation.
