@peter.benjamin

So I know I can't be the only one who's had the unexpected pleasure of coming into possession of messages that aren't intended for my consumption. I'm not talking about you getting someone's private love letters or metaphorical cat video links, which I've gotten and deleted.

If I were back home, I'd be sliding this info to my nearest and dearest investigative journalist type. Since I'm not, well, I guess I've got to take matters in my own hands.

It's an interesting read, so, I'm just going to include the unedited details for all.

[what follows is a copy of the message that peter had received earlier, sent from lydia gill-jade, which seems the sort of thing that would come up in a current headlines search if it weren't presumably a secret. well, so much for that, huh?]

Maybe it's just me, but do people usually name successors for campaign donations?

To be expected for coin to change hands, aye. But the United Nations cares very much about appearances. They like to play as if they can't be bought.

I would have thought the corporations might pick a likely candidate from the ranks of lesser government employees. To run their own seems--brazen.

They may. But it is not up to the United Nations alone.
They are not the sole player of this hand.

The lower on the rung of power you go, the more likely you are to find empathy.
It may be bold.
But I very much doubt the rest of the population will think to find it such.
It is hardly a blatant display, without the context we have been offered.

Then we'd better find a way to show them the context--without any of our names attached.
