@clarke.griffin

Thank you to Yalena for getting us sorted. [Sort of sorted. Sort of.] Now that we've arrived in New Tokyo and we're stuck inside for a little while, I think we should talk about some new changes that we're facing. I can't be the only one.

But first: a good number of us are here unwillingly, but we have to wait until we're fully prepped before we can go anywhere. Heading outside in these temperatures while unprepared could cost you your life. We all hate being trapped somewhere. I think that's pretty well-established. We also hate having to do anything or be anywhere when we didn't ask for that to happen. At least it doesn't seem like we were drugged, though it wouldn't hurt for Katelin and I to take some blood samples to confirm that. We'll have to store them until we get back.

As for the changes in your lives: have you noticed any? For instance, apparently I'm a lab tech at Giles Bell. I tried to set myself up for a new internship there that I could get easily, but I got ... elevated. Or hired beyond that? I'm not sure what the right terminology is here. Has anyone else noticed this? Or had it happen to them? I got permissions to take leaves from both of my jobs. And no, I'm really not prepared to work as a lab tech. I don't even know the first thing about setting up gels.

As a bit of a personal request ... does anyone think we can make pancakes in the small kitchen here? I have a craving for them. I've not really had cakes of the "pancake" variety before, but I want them now. And if you think we can, can you make them?

[This last bit is Loki's fault.]

If they're putting in the effort to stamp Morningstar out, it's because we're more of a threat. It's good news.

I'm afraid it's not as simple as good news or bad news, Rey.
Being perceived as a threat doesn’t mean we are one yet. The majority of our agents are noncombatants trying to go about their daily life while aiding others. And as you know, our chapter of Morningstar suffered considerable losses in the raids because of said efforts to stamp us out.

If this is indicative of increased scrutiny and hastened pursuit from the UN, we have less time to get back on our feet than we thought.
forcevisions: (but i could touch my face to yours)

[personal profile] forcevisions 2019-04-17 06:57 pm (UTC)(link)
It means we have a better chance. More people know who Morningstar is, and for every person who's been on the bad side of this government, been mistreated or wronged, that's someone we could get on board to help us keep pushing. Because obviously we're pressing the right buttons.

Maybe.
As long as we're ready for what happens when the UN pushes back.

[ asking for citizens to turn on one another is the act i gun of a crackdown, historically speaking. it stands to reason that the more popular morningstar becomes, the stronger it needs to be. that the displaced are out of touch with the world worries him.

they have catching up to do. ]

[ Fitz's hope died in the Framework, or in a HYDRA cell, no, when he woke up here in the midst of a firefight, no, when he realised it'd been nine months since he heard Jemma Anne Simmons' voice. It's the lack of hope, the chasm there, that brings to mind how many of their number are on the verge of exposure and how the UN has a record of most of their powers, analysed in the combat diagnostics software of their high-tech masks.

But his hope has been flickering back to life in recent months (fighting against every rational instinct). ]

We will be.

[ not yet, but they're working on it. he hopes that's enough, when they've lost precious time. ]

Time doesn't matter. We're going to do what we can to help.

But I know how important it is for people to believe that a group can do something. Morningstar isn't gonna accomplish much if no one believes that they can. The UN is coming out and admitting that we're a threat. That's something we can build on.

I know it's not as simple as that. I've even seen how opening up can cause problems and nearly wipe out an entire leg of a rebel organization. We need to approach this with caution.

Rey and I may be hoping too much. We have to see.

[ for Fitz, time is everything. always has been, as a man invested in quantum mechanics and the intricacies of spacetime. it’s their greatest resource as a species, ever dwindling. in his eyes, time is planning, cultivating networks and training agents.

however, he doesn’t see the need to further debate it on the network, in this moment, when keith covers more pressing ground with his considerations. ]

The UN describes us as “a danger to the world’s prosperity” which seems rather threat-like.
So I agree that we need to cautious. Every challenge is also an opportunity, and vice versa. We’ll have to work, wait and see.

[Keith not grasping the full philosophical and/or scientific depth of his words, and more!]

We just can't squander an opportunity with caution.

I know it's a difficult balancing act.

Once we get back, I'll take on some missions to find out what we need to know.

Appreciated and noted, Mr Kogane. Before I (or we, now) left for New Tokyo, we submitted a proposal to Gaby and El regarding our intentions with Morningstar and its structure moving forward. Once we're back in New Amsterdam, we'll work together to better devise a strategy for how to take on this new development within the government and proceed from there.

[ They do have Keith marked down as a willing field operative so his response here is encouraging. Peggy herself intends to make inquiries at work once she returns; she can't now, even remotely. It will look suspicious to the office since she's meant to be on a relief trip. But soon they'll all pool their strengths together, hear what Gaby and El have to say, and do what they can as a team. ]

Got it. Let me know when you hear back. I have some ideas for initiatives beyond this. Groups that we can put on tasks and not worry about them. One of those would be my own.

Is there anything you want me to look out for while we're here in New Tokyo?

We look forward to hearing them, thank you.

And nothing comes to mind at present. Although one gentleman (a Mr Kylo Ren) did wonder if the shrines in New Amsterdam made their way here, given that rumours of our exploits have — at least amongst Morningstar. Don't go out of your way, but keep your eyes peeled and I'll do the same. I admit I am curious.

We might want to see if they're in other cities on that Cooltalk. I'm not sure we'll be able to find any shrines under all the snow.

I'll look either way.
