[ IC DATE: OCT 06, 17:00 ]
Good evening, everyone. For our new arrivals and those of you I haven’t yet met, I’m Peggy Carter. I arrived on the fifth transport in August. You’re likely already acquainted with Fitz (@leo.fitz) from the first transport. And as you may have noticed on the news, the problems in this world have escalated. So we have a proposition for you.
But first, to catch you up: We all woke up far from home, and a rebel organisation called Morningstar found us first, providing assistance. For over 50 years, Morningstar has fought to restore human rights, dismantle the influence of corporate conglomerates, fight government corruption, and save lives in this world. But on September 10th, the United Nations moved against them — and between the arrests and emergency relocation of the surviving agents, their ranks here have been severely depleted. (Check the Newbie Guide for more information).
Without Morningstar, crucial eyes and ears on the inside and boots on the ground are gone. If we want to understand and help this world, filling those gaps is a logical next step. Not just for ourselves but for the people who relied on Morningstar long before we got here.
Both Fitz and I chose to join up some time ago (and we aren’t the first of our group to do so). After the arrests, we approached Gaby with an offer to help rebuild Morningstar’s network and take on any unfinished business in the aftermath. She identified charity work in the poverty-stricken districts of the city as a chief priority.
If you want to help, you can lend a hand tonight. Carter and I will be at the safehouse from 19:00 to answer questions, and at 20:00 sharp, we’re heading out as Morningstar agents to deliver food and clothes to those in need. Even if you can’t yet leave the safehouse, you can help us prep packs.
And if you would like to do more or feel your position in New Amsterdam society could help Morningstar’s cause, do let us and Gaby know. We’re keen to assist anyone with exploring their options here or in person. Our varied backgrounds and skills mean we have the potential to strengthen Morningstar’s network of intelligence and contribute beyond our own objectives, too.
Our aim today is to share this information and the opportunity to volunteer. Unfortunately, because we’ve used precious resources and inadvertently attracted scrutiny in the public eye — often while asking for Morningstar’s help with investigations into our predicament, as I’ve done — our current relationship with Morningstar is tenuous at best, despite our recent assistance during the raids. But consider this a new chapter.
Our stay here may be temporary, but we can still strive to leave this world better than how we found it. Thank you for your time.
EDIT: Thanks to @nill.klein and @sansa.stark, we've set up two boxes for clothing at the safehouse: One for ready-to-donate items and one for items in need of repair. The labelling will appear when you scan them with your neural implant, so you know which is which.
[ ooc; For context, the plot engagement comment outlining all this information is here. There will not be a log for the clothing/food run mentioned in the post, so you’re welcome to handwave your character coming along or roll in here. Both Fitz and Peggy will be replying in the comments, although not necessarily to all of them, so feel free to discuss amongst yourselves, turn threads into in-person chats with our resident Brits, and ask questions! Let's get collaboratin'! 💪🏼]

Her backstory is really not as exciting as he might be thinking from that description. Until the comet hit, Catherine was just an extra-smart person doing a normal job, same as half of her coworkers. ]
I'll try to make sure that works out for you.
Who's your partner? And what have you been working on? Aside from giant pilot robots.

Jemma Simmons, biotech and chem specialist.
I'm afraid she's not here, or I'd be happy to introduce you.
[ and not being here doesn't mean she's safe. there's no guarantee she isn't held by the same people who dropped them off, or trapped in the liminal space between universes. he thinks of her every day. even now, his chest aches. ]
Technically, we haven't got too many projects in progress. I've been working on equipping our fellow displaced, for the most part.
PRIVATE TO @CATHERINE.CHUN, @PEGGY CARTER
The robots are long-term. More urgently, we have PROJECT JANUS.
In the recent raids, Morningstar allowed us to use a mask-like tech that scrambles neural implant signatures and irritates the eye with its shifting surface, providing us with anonymity. In light of the escalation of the monster attacks and proposed relief efforts from the displaced, I received permission from Gaby to use the stock on hand and rework it for the displaced. The aim is to dismantle the tech, and create a new design. A colleague of ours thinks we ought to have a brand of our own, and I'm inclined to agree.
More importantly, it could save us mass exposure in the long run, with people growing antsy about our current status under the radar. Better that everyone has a choice whether to act or not, and whether to do so as known or unknown entities.
[ For a spy, secrecy is both an advantage and a necessity. It protects the mission as much as your loved ones, and Fitz will do everything he can to ensure that same first line of defence exists for the displaced, should they want it. ]
What do you think?

But it's also something that feels more and more distant as time goes on. It won't keep her endlessly spinning thoughts calm. Now, work -- that'll do it. ]
Oh... sorry to hear that. We could use someone specializing in biotech. I'm gonna have to get up to speed pretty quick!
PRIVATE TO @LEO.FITZ, @MARGARET.CARTER
What does it look like, physically speaking? Like a thin ski mask? Either way, it shouldn't be too difficult. I've been meaning to look more into how our implants work, anyway.
When I was in a mechanical body, it was pretty easy to scramble my sensors. Machines don't do well with certain types of signals and interference. Using receivers like the visual displays our implants sync up to and scrambling them on purpose... That's smart. And definitely doable.
Just about everyone has one, right? It obviously won't work on someone fully organic.
wow i know how @ correctly / private forever.
More like the shell of a plastic mask, like those for costumes, but sturdier, with a strange overlay. I'll do my best to explain, but you can come see for yourself later, if you like.
[ he sends a GPS pin of the SHIELD flat. ]
The mask covers someone's entire face, reaching back over the neural implant in the skull. The front of the masks are made of a shifting gel that causes the optic pain I mentioned before, if you look too long. At present, it scrambles incoming surveillance and the outgoing signal from our own implants, so what you're talking about is precisely what we're after.
no subject
I'd love to come see later! What do you think about it projecting a different face instead of just scrambling? Irritating people for looking at you is not exactly subtle.
no subject
A disguise option would be nice, but it's more than we're after a cohesive and unique brand, first. We don't want subtle. We just want anonymous and distinct from the typical Morningstar tech. Long-term, stealth tech sounds compelling.
And for the moment, if we can keep these two projects between us until we can talk them over together and draft a call to collaborate, it'd be much appreciated.
no subject
Not-subtle is easier, that's for sure. I think we'll have enough on our plates without me adding to the list. So... priority wise... what should I be working on first? The scramblers?
I was going to make some bugs for other people to plant in case the opportunity comes up, too. That shouldn't take long.
FEEL FREE TO ROLL TO ACTION HERE
[ they're all displaced, but not too long ago they had dead bodies on their hands, courtesy of new arrivals. and fitz is accustomed to his designes being used for unjust ends. they have to be careful with this. ]
Scramblers, definitely. Bugs also sound like a great shout.
If you come by before or after work tomorrow, we can talk over the specs we're working with and our tech wishlist.

Catherine-1, the original, had been killed by her coworkers over it. The present Catherine can't just forget that. It's made worse that she doesn't understand it; it means she has little faith in her ability to predict that sort of reaction in others. It's left her jumpy, a little sensitive, and much more reserved about her creations than she was before.
She's more than happy to have someone else taking over the role of dissemination and project planning. Maybe no one will kill themselves, or her, over something she does this time. ]
Will do. I haven't actually started work yet -- onboarding takes a while at big companies. Something I didn't miss.
I'll see you then, Fitz!
[ Catherine in person is more palpably awkward and reserved than she is in her online personality. Text generated from her thoughts gets as close to Catherine-in-the-Omnitool levels of distance from her feelings as she can. It lets her be more confident, more forthright, and overall more herself.
In person? The social anxiety that had made her known as a "quiet mouse" around PATHOS-II comes lurching back to the fore, and she's accordingly tentative as she edges her way into the workspace. She has a bag with some parts in it that she's been tinkering with, and she holds it close, calling out in an unsure tone: ] Fitz?
