You could be worse off, do trust me on that one- as someone who's been to a few others.
I can't imagine anyone's in the best of moods after that traumatic excursion.

That's the problem with trust, it's not exactly wise to trust someone else who doesn't trust you.
Loss of physical independence, subjective to influence, explosions, guns, and all the while no one seems to have any idea where they are.

So we can't do trust yet. Let's try transparency.

The last thing I remember is transport from a mortal vehicle before a collision. There were people with primitive weaponry- er, guns, I suppose. They- fellows in dark armor- were shooting at our former holders. I was susceptible to influence, so I had very little chance to find the whos and whats.

What more do you expect? It's a safehouse for people who need to be protected. It's starting to sound like someone thought you counted as that.

The most pressing question is what is there to be protected from?
You'll have to bear with me, I don't remember that much aside from my mentally traumatizing compliant stupor.

I tell you what they need to be protected from and I'll be confirming what they did to need to be protected and, if you know more than you're saying, who they are. That's trust, not transparency.

You'll be the only one, then. Your friends who went through the same thing are answering my questions just fine.
