@katelin.philips
hi @everyone, i have a question. bear with me, the question comes with a lot of backstory and exposition.
those of us who've been here a while know this, but for those who just got here, quick recap: a while ago, a monster attacked the city. smaller monsters split from it. some of those smaller monster parts have been showing up on the black market, apparently
then one of the nurses from the busses that keep dropping people off? waved at a camera. we figured, hey, a lead, but when we got to his apartment building, the building was on fire. we've since learned that the nurse was already dead when the fire started and that someone else in the building had monster parts in their apartment.
and then everyone who went into the burning building got... sick. angry. really, really angry. we're able to cure that somehow (it makes whatever's in our chests glow, so it probably has to do with whatever was done to us). we ran some tests on blood samples and one of the samples showed a link to the monster dna from the fire.
not sure how any of that is related to who brought us here or what was done to us, but that's not actually the question i want to ask today.
i'm a scientist. biology, mainly. if things like this happen again, or other weird stuff, it might be useful to have more samples. i'm not going to take any without anyone's consent. so: would you give consent to having a sample taken if ever you're affected by something like this?
i'm not going to sugarcoat it: there are ethical concerns. not only would you have to trust me and any other scientists around, but i don't have unsupervised access to a lab yet, so morningstar's been sending samples off to be tested. i can't say anything about those labs. you don't have to tell me now. you don't have to say yes at all.
think about it.
oh, and if anyone wants to handle data management, @leo.fitz promises payment in the form of snacks and beer
[ ooc: probably goes without saying but threadjack this post to your heart's delight, catch each other up, theorise, w/e. for those who have a definite stance on having their samples taken while they may or may not be in a position to give consent (ie because they're affected by rage-inducing monster dna), please head OVER HERE. ]

no subject
but that's not saying much, i guess
my own lab? probably not
but hopefully unrestricted and unsupervised access to one
no subject
but if it helps us out one way or the other you can count me in
morningstar or otherwise?
no subject
but not doing it definitely won't
i work at a lab in r&d
currently morningstar's sending the samples to their lab contact
i have no idea who that is
no subject
hey can i ask you a biology related question?? idk if you charge per consultation [--he's joking]
just curious about something and i was super duper bad at science back in school
no subject
the second one might cost you a glass of chardonnay, depending
[ she's kidding ]
1/2
yeah sounds fair!
private
but that's fine!
so...
basically
pretend someone's been cloned from someone else, are there any health complications the clone-y needs to worry about??
apparently there's this whole "as a baby your cells were as old as the person you got cloned from and they continue aging from there" and i'm not that into health and stuff at a nuclear? atomic? level
but
you know what i mean?? concerns, etc
[don't judge his worried self too much]
no subject
i'd say it depends on the level of cloning expertise and technology used when and where it was being done
but if it were someone here
[ not looking at you at all, prompto ]
i'd probably suggest doing a full check of blood work to see if there's any reason for concern
no subject
oh man
idk the details but the facility itself was pretty huge and there were several scientists working on it
seemed like a legit thing??
do you think it'll show in a blood test? no other tests required?? my main concern rn is health but it sucks that there isn't like a handbook for this
oh yeah it's
me
btw
[after talking to noctis about it, and noctis being okay with it? prompto is okay with it too -- or at least, getting there.]
blanket apology to all actual scientists for all science i get wrong kk
so they probably know what they were doing
blood work will definitely show whether there's any unnatural cell decay
which seems like the main thing you're worried about
if there's nothing wrong with your blood work, chances are you're perfectly healthy
no subject
blood test then
i'll get that checked out
no subject
[ she means that, she wants to help —but she also wants to get a look at clone cells nbd nbd nbd ]
no subject
please!
no subject
tomorrow evening?
no subject
no subject
maybe a cookie
no subject
[wheeze.....]
i'm guessing the "just a plain cookie" option
where do we meet?
no subject
you can come by the apartment, if you want [ address ping goes here. ] i'll tell me roommates you're coming
