@margo.hanson

with the river opening up for swimmers, anyone wants to learn how to swim or see me looking better than wendy peffercorn up on a lifeguard stand can come on down.

and i'm only giving CPR to people who ACTUALLY need it.

[ that's right, margo's got a new job that aligns with her tanning and drinking schedule.]

[All right, he’ll bite.]

Who [(or what?)] is wendy peffercorn?

Do you think the movie is famous anymore?

Aye, here. When Judas overtook our minds, we watched movies that are old now, if we wanted to. Robin Hood. It was like telling stories around a fire during a siege.

Robin Hood, but I didn’t see much of it. The people told me it was made in the twenty seventies. It reminded me of my home in some ways, less so in others. Back then, I had not been here long. I was surprised to see the players on real horses, or in a real forest — not just pretending to ride a stick in front of a cloth that had been painted green.

What is your Wendy like?

No, there were no foxes in it.

I’ve never seen a fox I’d call sexy. How have you?
northerndragon: (S6 STILL still talking to the wildlings)

[personal profile] northerndragon 2021-03-20 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
I can’t say that I have.

Do most people agree about the foxes?

[... Margo, is this just a you thing?]
northerndragon: (resentment)

How?

[????]

Don’t tell me they tried to make a fox pretty like Wendy.

What was Robin — a fox in a jerkin? And the cruel prince a fox in a crown?

[He can’t help the little kernel of dark satisfaction that forms when he reads that.]

No better choice for a cruel prince.

Were there any wolves?

Wasn’t he the cruel prince’s lackey?

Can’t see a wolf doing that. Why were they all animals?

Any other animal movies I should know about?

I suppose my brothers and one of my sisters might have liked to see a story like this when they were small, but not if the wolves were cruel. It’s the sigil of their house. There are wolves on the banners, wolves on the seals, wolves on my gorget to show my allegiance. They call us wolves — even me.

I found direwolf pups in the woods when I was still a boy. We each raised our own. I was a young man befriending wolves. What kind of stories were they -- what else happened in them? What did the boy do once a wolf followed him?

When it came to Robin Hood, it reminded me of home. The place in the movie wasn't the same place, the people weren't the same people, but they were more like to it than much else I had seen here.

[What he doesn't say is that, at the time, it made him terribly homesick. Life in the sim had been far worse than life in everyday New Amsterdam, and he had chosen to suffer more than was strictly necessary.]
