@rey.solo
I'm renting a space in New Beijing for a project I'm calling Falcon Works, and I could use some help.
There are a lot of Displaced with good ideas or projects that they don't have the resources to work on — metalwork, electronics, soft crafts, what have you. I want to build a community workshop space where anyone can come in and use the tools as long as you bring your own parts.
I'm looking for volunteers to supervise the space so it can be open while I'm working (I work 9 to 4 New Beijing time on Monday through Thursday), but also people who'd like to teach classes to the community in any of these areas (or related areas that use the same kinds of tools or need a workshop space).
Community members will be able to come in for free in certain hours, or pay for memberships to come in more frequently. But the Displaced can use the workshop whenever you want.
Let me know if you're interested in helping out — supervising, teaching, or funding. I've got some money put away to put towards this, and I'm looking around at grants, but if anyone would like to donate equipment or money to get it running, that'd be welcome too.
[ ooc; further details here. rey can hire a few full-time employees for this who'd probably be able to start within the next IC month, and anyone is free to say they did machining, lasercutting, 3-d printing, sewing, etc. at falconworks once it gets going. i'm slow on getting it up in locations, and i wanted to give people a chance to get on board and collaborate / expand the idea before putting it into locations. ]

That's incredible!
[ rey is easily delighted over people's powers, but this one sounds extra awesome ]
I'd love the help getting the space together. I haven't put a lot of thought into it aside from probably some tables and benches, yeah?
And absolutely, around your schedule, whatever you can do would be more than helpful. You can set the times for the class.

I know, right?? It's insane. It started out as just like. Screwdrivers into different kinds of screwdrivers but now I can do like 25 square feet at once. It is really, REALLY good for renovating.
Honestly, if you can get some scrap from anywhere, maybe some of the buildings damaged during the attacks, I can reshape you like a fuckton of benches, tables, storage, stuff like that for really cheap
I'm good evenings and weekends, but I have no clue what that works out to be in New Beijing time

[ if he's fully reshaping, it's worth asking if just the utter raw material is enough because lord knows they've got a lot of that in the engineering department. ]
We're 7 hours ahead of New Amsterdam here.
That'd make evenings overnight, I think, and weekends would be a good time for a class.

I could do overnights, or super early bird 6 a.m. classes. Whatever's in higher demand. Weekends are wide open. We'll figure out that part once it's up and running, maybe?

I got some suggestions from my supervisor at Riverstone.
But you're better at dealing with people than I am.

Alright. I'll see what I can do.
[Only for you, Rey!!]

@john.dixon
Are you talking about hardware or software? I can work with either, and I have too much time on my hands
I'm new, so I can't put money into it. If that's a dealbreaker.
no subject
Hardware and software. Obviously you can do software anywhere with the implant, but there'll be stations for electronics hardware and for metalwork.

[ Building, coding, it wouldn't matter. He could do whatever she needed, and honestly? He could use the opportunity to work with the implant. He needs to get comfortable with it. ]

Sure. Let me know when's good for you, I can come in.
