I'm renting a space in New Beijing for a project I'm calling Falcon Works, and I could use some help.

There are a lot of Displaced with good ideas or projects that they don't have the resources to work on — metalwork, electronics, soft crafts, what have you. I want to build a community workshop space where anyone can come in and use the tools as long as you bring your own parts.

I'm looking for volunteers to supervise the space so it can be open while I'm working (I work 9 to 4 New Beijing time on Monday through Thursday), but also people who'd like to teach classes to the community in any of these areas (or related areas that use the same kinds of tools or need a workshop space).

Community members will be able to come in for free in certain hours, or pay for memberships to come in more frequently. But the Displaced can use the workshop whenever you want.

Let me know if you're interested in helping out — supervising, teaching, or funding. I've got some money put away to put towards this, and I'm looking around at grants, but if anyone would like to donate equipment or money to get it running, that'd be welcome too.

[ ooc; further details here. rey can hire a few full-time employees for this who'd probably be able to start within the next IC month, and anyone is free to say they did machining, lasercutting, 3-d printing, sewing, etc. at falconworks once it gets going. i'm slow on getting it up in locations, and i wanted to give people a chance to get on board and collaborate / expand the idea before putting it into locations. ]

I used to teach engineering back home, I'd love to pick it back up again part time if I can work around my schedule at Giles Bell. I'm also willing to donate, but if you need anybody to help you actually get the space up and running, my power is matter bending. I can move and reshape quite a lot of it at a time.

And absolutely, around your schedule, whatever you can do would be more than helpful. You can set the times for the class.

I know, right?? It's insane. It started out as just like. Screwdrivers into different kinds of screwdrivers but now I can do like 25 square feet at once. It is really, REALLY good for renovating.

Honestly, if you can get some scrap from anywhere, maybe some of the buildings damaged during the attacks, I can reshape you like a fuckton of benches, tables, storage, stuff like that for really cheap

[ if he's fully reshaping, it's worth asking if just the utter raw material is enough because lord knows they've got a lot of that in the engineering department. ]

We're 7 hours ahead of New Amsterdam here.
That'd make evenings overnight, I think, and weekends would be a good time for a class.

Yep, I can use practically anything and just put it back together again. Quantity matters more than quality.

I could do overnights, or super early bird 6 a.m. classes. Whatever's in higher demand. Weekends are wide open. We'll figure out that part once it's up and running, maybe?

[ honestly, she feels even better about the prospect of reclaimed materials and salvage, so this is great news. but it's a little funny, feeling like an echo of where she'd come from. ]

Early's good too. And yeah, we can work out the particulars once it's running. I'm hoping in the next month.

Does that sound doable? I've never done this before.

I think it's totally doable. You can get into a workable early version 1 stage and then just improve pieces or get more specialized equipment over the next few months when the revenue starts flowing in.

I'd wanna see the space before making any promises, but yeah, considering the resources you've got at your disposal it shouldn't be a problem unless we're building the entire facility from the ground up or something.

It's roomy. They gave me a deal since it's historic, 2350, so apparently the city already needed someone to patch things up.

[ and rey's agreed to do the repairs as best she can on her own, and is hoping that along the way others will pick up the rest as they come up. like, for instance, the fact that the doors aren't updated to be at all compatible with the modern implants yet. one step at a time. ]

Absolutely, yeah. Should be able to pull together a roughly accurate timeline on what absolutely has to be done to make it functional then. Maybe talk logistics about what classes you plan on starting with so you have an idea of how you want to segment the space.

It'll be fun.
