Hi everyone,
It's time again for the irregularly scheduled update on the shadowy conspiracies surrounding our spacetime displacement.
If you don't already know me, I'm Leo Fitz, one of the arrivals from the first transport. Prior to being here, I was an engineering and technology operative at SHIELD, an American extra-governmental military counter-terrorism and intelligence agency. Myself and several others have been investigating the circumstances of the fire and the nurse's death, with the generous aid of Gaby, El, and Morningstar's contacts.
Maybe this only confirms our suspicions of foul play and establishes a concrete link between the fire and the creatures. To me, it guarantees that we are dealing with an organization capable of using, coercing, and erasing individuals, even those who have proven useful to them in the past. Everything we do in pursuit of answers is a risk, so please be careful as we work together to solve this.

Debris samples from the apartment site collected by Kylo (@kylo.ren) and I contained the expected signs of fire damage as well as a significant oddity: Residue left by an organic material. While the residue was too insubstantial and damaged for a full chemical analysis, it showed matching markers to the samples of the smaller creatures of unknown origin (designated 084s), previously tested by Kylo through Morningstar. At great personal risk, Katelin (@katelin.philips) and Marcos (@marcos.diaz) also questioned the morgue attendants. In doing so, we learned the following information:
1. Our nurse suffered blunt force head trauma, noted as his cause of death prior to the fire reaching his body. Such an injury occurs most often by accident, as in the case of a car crash, or when an object is used to bludgeon the skull, as in the event of a homicide.Further investigation shows that all of the nurse's data has been wiped, as if he never existed in the first place.
2. I'm inclined to classify this cause of death as suspicious, and it seems the local authorities agree, with a group of individuals in possession of NAFD Forensics identification having carted off the corpse before we arrived. Additionally, records of the nurse's collection and autopsy have been scrubbed, much to our morgue attendants' surprise and alarm.

Yeah, you're right. We will.
Thanks for the reminder, Connor, and good shout on following up.
[ he makes a note to share the maze saying with jemma, either via his voice memos or when he sees her again. she'd like it. ]
What do you think of the NAFD showing up to collect the body?

Coroners have jurisdiction over crime scenes. The moment there's confirmation of a body - no matter the state it's in - one must be called. They then become the administrators of the investigation. They determine whether it can be moved without contaminating a scene or destroying evidence.
The NAFD is suspicious to me for this reason. It's the coroner's duty to arrange transportation to a city morgue; they shouldn't have touched it at all.
no subject
Agreed.
Could be they weren't NAFD at all.
Not so hard to impersonate government officials if you're capable of erasing entire lives from this city's systems, is it?
The implants don't burn; that's how the morgue got an ID on the corpse in the first place, even if they lost the information in their records. Whoever has the body, has the implant and all its data.
And I want it.
[ definitely still pissy about this. ]

The crime scene itself, was it solely the fire department looking into it or were there others present? They aren't don't investigate or provide medical examinations... I suspect the NAFD more than AJJ Holdings, in light of this.

[ connor ;; ]
As far as I know, it was the NAFD's jurisdiction and they have their own personal forensics team, in the event of a potential arson case.
With the fire originating from the nurse's apartment, it would seem they considered the scene suspicious early on in the process.
Of course, we don't have law enforcement contacts, so it's difficult to say for certain.

Was there anyone else, besides Katelin and Marcos, who's spoken to the NAFD?
public, then private.
You're a valuable asset.
[ if fitz puts it like that, maybe he'll be more inclined to resist that path. someone more expendable can give the NAPD a go. ]
And not that I'm aware of, no.
[ he switches to PRIVATE. ]
There are other avenues worth exploring. The government, the press, and Giles Bell have none of our own in their ranks. And we could use someone with a medicine/biochemistry background for pharmaceutical positions or the NACDC as well, but there are too few among us with the know-how.
[ so basically pray jemma simmons shows up. ]
private forEVER.
Still, thank you. Your confidence in me is, as always, appreciated.
Clarke is stationed at the hospital and you in the labs... who else has a similar position? It might be worthwhile to keep a comprehensive list of everyone's positions here in New Amsterdam and whether or not they're working for Morningstar on the sly.
AND EVER.
it's a selfish want, when connor has said he would be happiest in his intended line of work.
anyway. ]
Between you and me, I've been keeping tabs unofficially.
[ connor already knows he's a network creep. ]
We have an eclectic bunch, and their inroads often seem more incidental than tactical.
- Scott Summers has positioned himself well in an innocuous post. Maintenance for the labs, hidden in plain sight.
- Strange was in wetware, though it seems he's disappeared. Will update if he reappears.
- Katelin knows her way around biochemistry, so I might suggest she explore pharmaceuticals, given that her present job seems disinclined to give her lab access anytime soon. She's R&D somewhere small.
- We have several hackers and engineers in our midst, though it's difficult to ascertain their capabilities without practical sessions. I'd put John Jaqobis at the highest level there, with Wrench below him, and Daisy still possessing the skillset but relearning the neural systems. For reference, Daisy's a tech at Vyonation, as am I over at Volt, a subsidiary of the corporation. Unsure of the other two. Would be wise if they'd divvy up between Giles Bell and Pulsar subsidiaries, respectively.
- Loki is an employee at Pulsar.
- Re: MS, Myself and Kylo Ren are working for Morningstar, as are Ciri and, I think, Keith. Bellamy seems keen on Gaby, but I don't know if he's officially thrown his lot in with the organisation.
- Loki, Malone*, and myself are involved in the underground, though I believe I'm the only one with a concrete allegiance there at present. Reckon I've seen Thor in the fighting rings as well.
- *I would be surprised if Hafid isn't also investigating the underground, given his proclivities and closeness with Malone.
As of this post, I've spoken to Noctis about joining the NAFD, and Rey appears keen on pursuing a post at a Giles Bell subsidiary. Additionally, I've some newer faces in mind for cultivating leads with the other gangs, but that's still nebulous. Early stages.
I just think we need a robust network, if we want to fill in the bigger picture, yeah?

Markus works at a restaurant uptown, playing piano for the wealthy, and you're already well aware that I work for the city as a safety officer.
(... wait a second.)
Noctis... agreed to work at the fire department?
no subject
[ which is probably not a reassuring thing to say, but fitz — the slightly bumbling, flusterable engineer — has been noting more than people think and that works well for him. best keep this between him and connor. ]
That's good to know about Bellamy. Maybe it'll be indicative of whether or not to go down that route for yourself.
As for Noctis, he wanted to get involved and appeared interested in that and Morningstar. I'm going to have lunch with him, make sure he understands what he's getting into.
[ or to make sure he follows through, more likely. ]
no subject
(and oh noctis.)
Noctis is more than capable of taking on any challenges the NAFD could dole out, but... he's not the best liar. That's my only concern. Otherwise he has a very impressive willpower and will do whatever he can to help.
He'll understand what he has to do.

A fair evaluation.
We all have to lie and rise above our stations here.
[ if you're not a spy, you still have to live their cover in new amsterdam. and if you're not a leader (or you shouldn't be, in the case of one leopold james fitz) — well, you rise up and take your shot, anyway. ]
But I'll keep an eye on him.
Nobody operates in isolation. That's protocol.
