Evening, all.
Anyone fancy a trip to New Casablanca? Reckon there are plenty of us who could use something in the vein of a vacation given all we've managed lately. I know I ain't alone in knowing a few folk who could stand to relax some.
( he's not naming names, but. these people Know Who They Are. )
Just a day or two, probably heading out Friday and back Monday evening so's those of us working don't miss too many shifts. We'd be going by gate, so it wouldn't be too much out of our way time-wise.
@ gaby, may I have a moment of your time?

Yeah, fair point.
Pal of mine. He thought they were German spies. Don't ask me how he came to that conclusion.

[ north africa in the forties, talk of german spies? look, his specialty's history of a slightly earlier vintage, but he's got a few guesses here. ]

( he's adapted easy enough to the 'modern' age, but in some ways he looks through things with that same antiquated lens. the only reason he can parse why a fella would move around so much is sailin'. )
Little town called Agathine, in Conecuh County, Alabama. Lived in New York a spell in the thirties, did my time in Europe and then it was back to Alabama before I wound up here.

this must be a helluva change

[ but hell, there's no denying neither of them were probably ready for chips in their goddamn heads. ]

Frankly, it follows that it's a logical progression of technological advance.
( radio broadcast predates him by a few years, but he grew up watchin' it become more an' more common. from that the leap was to television. maybe it's on account'a speakin' to the dead that he ain't rightly shocked by much of human progression. when you've made peace with lives lived a thousand years before you, an' a thousand years again, you learn to look at the longer timeline of humanity as a rule. )

[ ...that's because you were in prison for most of google's early life, sam. ]
i did my time with the card catalog, same as you. pain in the goddamn ass if you ask me.
of course, so is having a computer in your eyeballs, but it's less of one.

( shitty though it may well have been, the instant crap they got in their k-rations kept him going. )

I can't say I'd kill a man for a pack of Chesterfields, but it's likely a closer margin than the good Lord would like.
