So, I know there's a lot going on right now which seems like the perfect time to throw more fuel on the fire.
First off, I hope everyone's doing okay after what happened. I haven't heard about casualties or anything so hope everyone's okay.
Now, getting to the reason why I'm here, some of you may have heard about my hopes to set up a soup kitchen slash safe place for the residents of New Amsterdam. We're oftentimes well protected when things happen but a lot of them are not. They lose their homes, their livelihoods, and sometimes more when things like this happen.
The purpose of this communication is for a few reasons:
1. ideas and suggestions on how to raise the money that might be needed for this
2. ideas on what else might be needed for a place like this
3. possible volunteers to help build, gather resources, and then staff this when it gets off the ground
4. possible problems that I might not be seeing
I'm not a fighter. You guys have that covered. This is more my forte here and it's a way I can help for what I hope is a longer period of time than just being nomadic and going from place to place. Thanks for any input you have.

@miriam.maisel; i am so sorry for little miss type a
I would be honoured to help! If needed, I can walk you through my past achievements and the qualities that make me perfect candidate, or possibly write up a resume. Would he want a resume? I can make a resume. [ Does she realize none of this is private? Hard to tell. ]
I'm well versed in organizing events, as well as volunteering my time and money, including raising money for an Zion Orphanage in Jerusalem to have a gymnastics team.
I could also send him a colour coded folder. Past jobs, recipes to use, how to sweet talk old rich people...
And no one makes matzo ball soup better than me, either. I guarantee it. I'd bet my life on it, even.

( he doesn't know why he catches on this but it makes him chuckle even if it does sound like a very good skill to have. )
There's a trick to that?
Honest question.

As for what may be needed... clothing, cots, pillows and blankets, personal hygiene items like toothpaste and soap, basic medical supplies. If we had access to showers, that'd be ideal.
Oh, and I do know someone well-versed in construction. [ you're being volunteered, dean. ]

And thank you for the suggestions. Those are little things that I might have overlooked because I'm trying to think of the big things.
But small things like that are real helpful. As someone who spent time living on the street, they're real important.
And I appreciate anyone you can bring in for the heavy duty lifting.

What big things does your list consist of currently?
@robert.plant, please assist in heavy duty lifting.

But also how to protect it when things go down here and how to make it so people trust me to keep them safe.

Could be a longshot, but with all the big firms doing work right now fixing up buildings you might be able to convince someone to donate some supplies.
no subject
And yeah, that's what I'm going to look into. I've been working for Pulsar for awhile so I'm going to see if they've got any and try and use some goodwill to get in there.
If not, I've got a few other leads. There's a lot of abandoned spots now too because of what happened. Not a great way to get a spot but I'll take what I can get.
@lance.sweets
1. This might be something you can accomplish through crowdfunding. There are two main ways to go about that; you might be able to get a corporation or other organization to fund it for publicity, or you may be able to solicit donations from individuals if the idea is presented by someone they'll listen to. Social media's such a big thing here that you might even be able to find an influencer who's willing to tell their audience about the cause.
2. It depends how exactly you want to run it. Is it only for emergencies, or will it be active more often/open all the time?
3. I can probably help with the organization/clerical side of this; I've volunteered with some of these sorts of places back home so I know the basics about how they're run. Again, though, it depends how exactly you want this to run and what services you want to be available.
no subject
1. You know, I'd thought of the corporation but I hadn't thought of getting someone specific to make the offer. I know of a few people who've been public faces for various things so I might try and talk to them because I'm definitely not one of those people.
2. Ideally, I'd want it open all the time. People don't stop suffering just because things are calm here, you know?
3. Yeah, I know a lot's dependent on decisions I haven't made. But, I do want it open at all times to give people a safe place to go whenever. The rest is kind of up in the air as I work through things.
no subject
2. Yeah, and you're right, but that expands the scope a bit. Not that that's a bad thing, just something to take into account; you'll need places were people to stay potentially long term, food and general personal supplies, some sort of plan about medical needs even if that's just referring people elsewhere, possibly the same thing with counseling, maybe job assistance? I'm sure there's probably more to consider too.
3. That's okay, thinking about what needs to be done is the first step to doing it. Once you're sure of what services are needed then it'll be more clear what staff, supplies, and that sort of thing you'll need.
no subject
2. Yeah, there's a lot to consider if I want it to be open all the time. Ideally, I'd love to get more people that aren't from here to help because of the abilities we have but I also know that's not possible since some people don't take to it well. I don't want to freak people out so referrals would probably be the best bet at least at first. I think I'll be keeping the scope small at first as in 'this is just a place to get some food, sit down, be safe' before expanding it out.
3. The last time I worked with something like this, we were nomadic so we didn't need to establish a base like this. It was easier but harder. And it meant that we'd leave behind people that needed help. So, I'm hoping this is better in the long term for this city.

Some of the suppliers for Red Wings may be able to aid us in some way. At least, those that still stand.
no subject
Yeah, I was definitely going to look into suppliers that work with Morningstar and PRESERVE. I wouldn't need a ton to get started which is what I'm focusing on now.
