@loki.odinson

[ it's been a difficult few weeks, and it feels almost like everyone's still trying to hold themselves together. there's a quiet hush over the unrest, which means that it's absolutely time to get some shit together. ]

Oh, hello.
Just a few thoughts that I've put together, I suppose- prior to my arrival here I had a rather good sense of the goings-on within the very fabric of reality. While I certainly can't indulge myself in such feats since I got here, I can say with confidence that the multiverse loves patterns. Something that's simple to predict. For instance, there are some of us here that seem to mirror a similar set of circumstances with one another while still coming from different universes. (See: Tony Stark and Stephen Strange.)
With that in mind, I thought that there simply must be something similar that links us all together in a thread of commonality.

Come now-
You all must have noticed.
Everyone's hot.

[ mystery solved.

it could be that he's just bored.

A pretty face can still be hateful, if it hides a cold heart or a false one.

A face that isn’t so pretty can become prettier every day.

Even if I could, I think it would be unkind of me.

When I was still a green boy, around eighteen or so, men would call me pretty to mock me. But that doesn’t mean anything to a sword. Beauty can die on a blade, or kill with it.

And I don’t know that I am, but if I am, it doesn’t matter.

You are! Not that you care. Just saying.

[personal profile] northerndragon 2020-06-26 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
It’s kind of you to say so.

[He doesn’t have any sense that this is something Quentin in particular would say to make him feel small.]
filloryfanatic: (oh shit)

[personal profile] filloryfanatic 2020-06-26 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah sorry I meant it in the nice way! You're a very handsome guy.
northerndragon: (really?)

[personal profile] northerndragon 2020-06-26 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
I wouldn’t have expected anything else from you. You have a kindly manner.

I met a man who looked every inch a king, once. And past that, he was one of the greatest swordsmen of his time. He was the son of a rich and powerful lord, a man who was Hand of the King twice over. But this swordsman, who looked like a king himself — he had been charged to guard his king, and he had murdered him instead. Nearly everyone calls him The Kingslayer now.

So no, I don’t think it matters. But I suppose it’s easier to be fair than foul. You’re far from foul, Coldwater.
filloryfanatic: (smiling at)

[personal profile] filloryfanatic 2020-06-26 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
Oh good, because I was like oh god I don't mean it like them at all, just giving a compliment!

I think most people would agree that personality has a lot to do with what makes someone attractive too. I've met some truly beautiful people who are cruel and cold, so they kind of seemed ugly afterward. And that is so nice of you thanks omg I am definitely not as 'fair' as you but I'm glad to be somewhere on the fair list.

That man I spoke of — he has a sister, a twin. A queen. She’s a beauty, all golden hair, but false, and cruel. It’s hard to think of her as anything else now. Hard to remember that she was so fair to look at when I was a green boy.

I’d say that you can judge someone by their friends, but some heads are turned by someone who’s easy to look at. Some don’t look any deeper than that.
filloryfanatic: (oh shit)

[personal profile] filloryfanatic 2020-06-27 03:40 am (UTC)(link)
I think it depends on what people are looking for. I've always been ride or die with my friends. That's a term for when you're like really loyal to the point where you'd do anything for someone you care about. But there's been some like acquaintances who aren't looking for a soul-changing platonic love affair, which I get. They just want to hang out, have a drink, talk about something shallow. And the same for relationships.

I used to get mocked a lot too when I was a green 'lad,' so I get it. Not about being pretty though, about liking books and not being good at sports.

You put me in mind of a friend I have at home. His name is Sam. He likes books and songs and hates hunting and fighting. When he came to Castle Black, the other boys used to beat him bloody, until I put a stop to it. The world needs all kinds of people — wise men as much as strong ones.

Ride or die, I like that. We say that we find our friends on the battlefield. True friends fight at your side, when they can, even if no one has a sword.

filloryfanatic: (simple and nice)

HE IS SO MUCH LIKE SAM TBH

[personal profile] filloryfanatic 2020-06-28 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
It sounds like Sam and I are kin spirits. I used to get beaten up for it too, but I ended up being a badass magician and a king so, I basically won in that sense eventually. I still am not good at sports or fighting though.

I think that's true, for sure. Friends also are the people who like you for who you are, like you did for Sam, I'm sure he appreciated that.

I was sullen, as a boy. I took offense easily. It wasn't that they compared me to a woman, there's not much wrong with being a woman if you are one, but that I knew they wanted to make me feel small. I am bastard-born. It makes you used to insults, and used to proving them wrong.

[And if you are determined to prove that you're not a creature of lust and deceit, it can make it a little harder to enjoy being attractive.]

Better to not feel like you need to prove anything anymore.

Ah, you're a poet as well as a swordsman. +1 attractive points, I guess.

Tsera Vel.

[A friend? He thinks? Sort of?]

I’m no poet. Or I hate to think of what passes for poetry where you come from. Where I come from, it’s always talking about some woman’s hair and her fine eyes, or how strong some hero was.

Oh, don't 'Tsera Vel' me, Jon Snow.

[ you're the one out here talking about beauty and blades and death. ]

It's a little bit of the same. Pretty girls. Glorious deaths. Sometimes it's milking machines, if you like it weird. Good to know that some things are standard across worlds.
northerndragon: (dashing)

[personal profile] northerndragon 2020-06-28 02:48 am (UTC)(link)
It is your name. I mean it kindly.

[It’s not her name, but he doesn’t know. Still, the slight fondness is true enough.]

Milking machines aren’t. How does that

What are they doing to the poor cow?
bivariant: (pic#13615595)

[personal profile] bivariant 2020-06-28 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
Is that how you say 'hello', then?

[ if only text could actually sound fond. ]

They put cups on the udders. It automates the process and milks the cows faster and more consistently than if you did it by hand.
northerndragon: (fireside - attentive)

[personal profile] northerndragon 2020-06-28 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
It’s one way. Should I have used one of these? 🙂😊🙃😀

The cups — could be worse.

[ oh HELLS, the system has emojis. she really is living in the past. ]

I like the second one, make that my special greeting.

'Could be worse', though? What did you think 'milk machine' actually meant?
northerndragon: (are we out of barrels of pitch)

[personal profile] northerndragon 2020-06-28 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
After what we all just saw, it’s easy to imagine machines making all kinds of horrors here. I did not want to.

Harder to imagine them being simple milkmaids.
