Exactly.
I've seen it happen.
People can argue all they want that my world isn't this world, but human nature is human nature. People will stay with what is familiar if they aren't able to see anything better. Even if that familiar is a cycle of misery.

And you're right that it's easy to get set in your misery. It just becomes normal after a while.

I was there when the superhero stuff first started, in my world. It scared people, too.

[ By "there" he means that he read about it in the papers like everyone else. ]

It scares people because they realize they're being held accountable.

This won't be embraced immediately. It will be hard going and dangerous. But I consider it to be worth it.

I know enough. They're not to be trifled with. They can, and will, kill on sight if we pose enough of a threat.
