I was involved in the interrogation of Kurt Fischer. The decision was made to keep him contained. We did not kill him, he was not tortured, pains were taken to ensure he did not kill himself. The UNA did not offer us the same courtesy. They sent twenty five soldiers to collect one man. Of the three of us on watch, myself and a colleague were killed with intent and without hesitation. The third was lucky to survive.
Do not take them at their word. And do not turn this into a retrospective conversation about the value of murder. A choice was made, the consequences are what they are.
If you have questions, I'll do my best to answer them.

As long as the UN gets away with their lies about Morningstar, all of the Displaced are in danger because of what we did.

All of the Displaced we're always at risk. You weren't the ones who put them there. The UN built a world we could never be safe without hiding. We've been fighting them all this time, and we'll keep fighting. They know a bit more about us now. We know a bit more about them too.

That the UN soldiers shot at us to kill, rather than to capture, speaks volumes of their approach in my opinion.

It sounds like they could have very easily done that.
So, why haven't they? Or rather, why didn't they?
HERE, BUT NOT.

But if they knew we were part of the group of anomalies they're now clearly wary of, we do potentially have a greater issue on our hands.
As far as physical trackers go, the two of us who died have been through the medi-units. My clothes have been disposed of. Still, if you think it's worth a scan for tech, I'd be willing to undergo one.

I would ask if anything useful was uncovered during the interrogation but if that soldier is still alive, I would be absolutely shocked.
[ he knows what his superiors would have done if someone had been compromised. ]
I think this tells us that being diplomatic and merciful in the future isn't going to work. I am not suggesting a full offensive but we're going to need to change our way of thinking and doing now as well.
no subject
We knew this to an extent, but the man tried biting through fingers so that he could kill himself to keep it safe.
[ as for the rest, Stephen takes a breath. ]
We may not be given future opportunity to be diplomatic or merciful. We'll adapt as we have to.

Without anyone taking it personally, how many of those on this mission have been involved in an organization like Morningstar before?
I have been told from the start it is a militant group. Given the nature of this world and its politics, was anyone expecting mercy from the UNA? Their violence does not surprise me.
no subject
I'm not surprised we were treated with deadly force. But it bears telling so that nobody underestimates them in the future, and to ensure nobody among us is left believing this mission was something it wasn't.

That being said, my question may have been covered in the original conversation: was the benefit of Kurt Fischer's testimony necessary to further, presumably, Morningstar's goals?
no subject
Kurt Fischer was questioned regarding the whereabouts of the agents who were taken in the previous raids - so to that end, yes.

anyway, i agree with the idea that we should lay low. any action we make now's gonna be a bad action. proving them wrong about us is great, but we gotta live long enough to make it happen -- something we're already having some bad luck with.
uh, hope you're feeling better
no subject
[ and he's just going to
leave the actual conversation point raised here for somebody else to pick up from. it deserves to be covered if people are angry, which they've every right to be, but he and the others (looking at you, too, poe) are the ones who contributed to the decisions and actions that did the damage. they can't undo that. it's everyone else who gets to pass judgement. ]
Thanks.

Regarding the information you dropped. Unsurprisingly, the UNA are still using a variant of the ALIGN software.

As far as this Kurt Fisher was concerned. "The decision was made" by whom exactly? And upon what grounds?
[Without having read through their entire conversation, Ianto feels somewhat the same as Cassian on the matter.]
@daisy.johnson
there was a discussion amongst people affiliated to morningstar on the network.
some of us believed that we would be safer killing the agent in question to prevent him from being traced back to our location, some believed that any action whatsoever exposed us to retaliation, and some said that morningstar had to be the bigger person and not sink to the una's level.
turns out it didn't matter what we did, the una was always going to paint us as a bunch of dirty terrorists.

He was a soldier, presumably loyal to his cause.
You say you did not torture him, you did not kill him.
I respect that decision, if you tell it true.
[Which obviously indicates that she doesn't believe the whole truth of that statement.]
Perhaps you will forgive my ignorance.
How exactly did you plan to obtain information from him?
no subject
We utilized relevant power sets to induce a willingness to share.
I then used my power to check the truthfulness of his responses and fed back additional details to the interrogators via the implant. I can read minds.
