hi, everybody!

i just wanted to take a minute to say welcome to all of our new faces! in case i don't get to meet you in person, my name is caroline forbes, and i run the displaced welcoming committee with @prom.argentum and @sora.sky! if you need anything while you're getting settled, we'll be around to help in any way we can!

for anyone who's on rescue duty:

• any of the cots with gift baskets are available for anyone you bring back! there should be fresh towels, a pillow, and sheets on all the open beds. 
• dinner is at eight sharp — don't be late! if you want to bring anything from the harvest festival to share, it would be really appreciated!!! 
• we are still trying to get more donations — clothes, linens, food, even activities and crafts for the safehouse! anything that doesn't require an id would be great. anything you don't want anymore but don't think is worth donating to the safehouse can go to the morningstar booth at the festival!

for anyone who's new and just joining us:

• we have a really helpful new arrivals guide that you can download and read any time.
• if you have any questions about anything in there, you can tag them in this post (@caroline.forbes will tag me!) and they can come to you. just be sure to give your name somewhere in your comment, or you'll just be anonymous!
• if nobody told you yet, the first day is kind of a headache. you might feel better if you get some sleep!

I'm glad you like it! Caroline's the one with all the good ideas, but we're doing our best.

You're doing great. Newcomers will need a distraction to get themselves out of their heads. What you're doing is providing them with exactly that, and potentially establishing trust right out of the gate.

I hope we can do those things, but I don't blame people for being upset and not wanting to trust us, either.

No problem! I kind of wish I could do more, but I'm working on it.

No. But better to mitigate any distrust by way of showing that we care. There's really no better way to go about it.

I think the next goal is to make the new safehouse look a little more homey. If you have any ideas for that, feel free to pitch in!

Well I do remember hearing talk about flowers and plant life a while ago.

[lighthearted]

That would be nice! But... don't they need sunlight?

They do. There's always the artificial flowers route, which can be arranged just as nicely as the real thing.

[But... people usually appreciate the real thing more than paper flowers, no matter how nice.]

The alternative is to find the type that thrive on indoor light. Or just go with cut flowers, but we'll have to make sure to change those out every week or so.

Using cut flowers seems kind of wasteful, doesn't it? Next time I go to the farmer's market I can ask the people there what kind of plants are best for indoor use! I think that'll really brighten things up. Great idea!!

I'll ask around, too. We'll have a menagerie of plant life before you know it.
