So, this isn't my first time being here, I've learned. I'm still wrapping my head around the whole thing but there's a few of you that know me and I don't know anything about you except what I've learned in the last few weeks.

You all probably know more about me than I know about you and that's weird. Nothing I can do about it but it's weird all the same. I half want to make lists of what you know about me so I can compare and contrast. I'm not going to though. You guys deserve to keep those memories of him — me — for yourselves.

Sorry that I'm not him, though.

Anyway, I'm not smart enough to really have an explanation on why this happened. I don't know if I was here and had my memories wiped and then got sent back. Pretty clear that messing with heads is pretty normal here and it wouldn't be a stretch where I come from either. But is there a way to test for that without cracking my head open?

Or I could be totally different person which just gets into science stuff that's above my pay grade. But I can't rule it out. Two of me. No one wants that, though. I don't know which explanation I really prefer either.

I've been in a position like that before, trying to stop people from fucking up. It's exhausting and I had help.

Get a bunch of mutants in one place, there's bound to be some that think they're better than others.
And want to do things their way.
We didn't let them.
So they split off.

The fact that more of you haven't fucked off into oblivion is really astounding.

They know. Two men did it and proudly announced it, and then vanished from the world itself.

I doubt that scared anyone into not trying.

From personal experience, I can tell you that getting along doesn't have anything to do it. If there's someone in your ear, telling you there's somewhere better, people will listen. Loyalty goes out the door. Everything does.

I believe it's more that the matter of "better" can't be reached without the aid of those like themselves. For those two guys? I don't think they needed to go back home. That was the impression they gave off, anyway.

So, is this the better side of things?

Anyone's gonna be biased toward their home, even if it needs a lot of patching up.

That's the way it should be for most of you.

And yet we can't go back to those homes, underwhelming or not.

No, but you won't be able to get back there alone. Not without help.

Hence the potential preference for here rather than a nebulous where.

You realize how hard it is to trust that, right? That I'm going to get help from people that I barely know. That maybe I could take my chances somewhere else and still be in the same position.

Why don't you ask your fellow Displaced why they stick around, if not for that? I think it'd be enlightening for everyone.
