@gaby

[ this was supposed to be one of Gaby's days off. in fact, she's not in the safehouse when the message comes in. ]

Turns out that we're missing two new faces around the safehouse.

I'd play a guessing game as to why I wasn't told, but I don't care. These two faces apparently murdered two people that night.

I don't know who they are, but I do know that they're locked up. Any guesses as to what's going to happen to them?

Genuine question. Because I don't know.

Oh, and because some of you think you can do whatever the hell you want around here: don't think the way out for them is a jail break. Don't even fucking try it. And no, Morningstar isn't in the business of breaking people out of jail, because that would be stupid.

[ she's a little angry. no. a lot. but mostly she doesn't know how to handle this one. ]

Look. You know something? Tell me. You won't be "in trouble."

I'd blame it on drugs and disorientation sooner than I'd blame it on them, personally, but I can't say I have all of the details. I don't and that - bothers me.

(connor doesn't mind letting markus know that. give him some insight on how he's feeling.)

We both understand this better than anyone else does. How it feels to follow orders you can't resist.

I want to help. It's just that... waiting might also be the best way to do that.

I know that. I know that waiting, and possibly preparing ourselves for what might come, is the safe option. The reasonable option.

[But Markus is often a walking example of head fighting against heart.]

But this makes me feel like a hypocrite.

I know.

The situations, while we're comparing them to ours, aren't comparable. We have to remember that moving forward.

Yes, but that isn't what I mean.

If it was someone close to us being questioned right now, do you think we'd still be touting the "wait and see" option?

(if it was hank?)

Absolutely not... is that how we should approach this?
saviorexe: (87)

[personal profile] saviorexe 2019-01-11 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
No.

[Because it's not Hank. It's not another android from home, maybe even a member of Jericho. It's not Connor being questioned by police right now, under threat of everything unravelling.

So, as he said. Hypocrisy.]

Just thinking aloud. [He cuts off this line of thought, directs the conversation back into reasoning. He's shown enough doubt; the rest he keeps to himself.] For now, we do what Morningstar does.

(eyes raise from his lunch in the sky park, shoulders sinking. this doesn't feel right to him.)

As you say.

I can't help but think there's so much more to this. That this is going to be very important, if it's received this much attention from the police and Morningstar.

Unsurprising, given that we’re dealing with the death of civilians and two individuals considered anomalies because of a lack of identification.

But you’re right. And how we respond is just as important, and it shouldn’t be so difficult to get everyone on the same page.

[And yet.]

It doesn't seem possible that a solution has evaded me for this long, or even a promising lead.

I'm- we're looking over something big. I need to review.

Between everyone here, not very many leads have gone without investigation. You haven’t missed anything if the right one hasn’t presented itself yet.

Don’t pull yourself in too many directions at once, Connor, or you won’t get anything done.

There are only four directions I can move in. I have you, I have our friends, I have this case, and I have my job. In order of importance to me.

I won't lose sight of that. It's just... frustrating.

(he's said it before, he'll say it again. and again. and again.)

[An order of importance, with Markus at the forefront. That's simply unfair, making warmth roll against his heart. But the android's logical mind partitions that away, storing it for later.]

I think we're all some degree of frustrated. That much is obvious.

But I know you. This whole post has gotten you restless. So it's worth pointing out that drawing attention to ourselves by retracing old leads, or even new ones, is almost too precarious to consider right now.
cyberlife: don't do that. (pic#12506761)

(if the lieutenant were here—

if. because he's not.
)

I wasn't going to. I can review information on my implant, it won't cause anyone any trouble.

All right.

[No point in continuing to reiterate himself when the point has been made. He’ll have a chance to talk to him about it later if need be.]

Let me know if you find anything.
