Is it a normal occurrence to wake up holding something you didn't have before, or should I begin booby trapping my apartment?

Wouldn't you say that it depends on the object in question?
Does it feel threatening? Do you feel as if someone is attempting to harm you with it?
This is relevant information, of course.

Does it? I would think waking up with anything you did not have with you would be cause for concern.
[But he'll answer, as he's not trying to hide it.]
It's a book. One that I thought I had lost upon my arrival.

There's a difference between a bullet and a book.
Did you get a paper cut from the book in question? I'm curious about the cause for alarm. Surely someone just returned the book to you?
[Akechi: knows exactly what happened but wants to be a contrary brat. More at 11, though it's nothing new.]

[He's starting to remember why he's been staying away from the network. Curse his inability to assess motivation through text.]
Do you normally return things to people by breaking into their rooms and gently placing it in their arms?

No, I can't say I do.
But, ah, "gently." Consider: who would know that you're a light sleeper that it would need to be applied gently? Does anyone come to mind?

No.
[At least two people but he knows it's not them, and he definitely won't say as much.]
You never answered the question.

I've gotten something from my world. The guide mentioned it was something that happens.

Thieves take things, they don't leave them.

[ And, because the kids are being absolute gremlins: ]
Angela's right, it's a semi-common occurrence. One of the many wonderful phenomena that come with being us.

There are worse people than thieves.
[So booby trapping is still on the table as far as he's concerned.]

My chest was glowing when I woke up. I figured it had something to do with that or, more broadly, however we're here..

[He appreciates a break from all the gremlin-ry, Stephen.]
So these things just appear with us?
I suppose that would explain no signs of a break in.

I suppose so.
I would have preferred a very strange break in.
[It wouldn't be the most unexplainable thing to happen in this Maker be damned place.]

I dislike having unwanted people in my space, but I see your point. It would be easier to explain, and catching someone in the act could lead to answers.

I take it you haven't consciously pulled anything out of your Mary Poppins' carpetbag of a chest cavity yet.
[ Alas, the break was short-lived. ]
