@amy.march

to whom it may concern

good afternoon. my name is amy march and i am newly arrived so do bear with me for i have a great many questions. most pressingly i am in want of a job. i have never had one so im afraid i dont know what sort of job i ought to look for. i can sew cook clean and perform all necessary household tasks but i think i shall cry if i must play the part of a maid to another woman please pardon my pride. i am educated at least by the old measuring stick of where i came from but here there is so much more to be ignorant about. and i am accomplished in art but with materials so dear i cannot see how this might earn my bread so to speak. all of this is to say what jobs are available for young ladies?

furthermore i would like to leave the safe house as soon as my circumstances allow. however i have never lived on my own and the thought of doing so now is daunting. it seems such a mean and lonesome lot to accept. are there boarding houses in new amsterdam? you know rather like the safe house but much nicer and everyone has her own room but comes together for meals. i think this would be much pleasanter.

finally i am taking recommendations for dress shops. it is nearly impossible to find anything that suits. your consideration in these matters is very much appreciated thank you.

sincerely
amy c. march

I doubt many people can afford maids here, so you're safe.

What do you think you're ignorant about? Maybe I can catch you up on some of it.

Where are you from?

( an argument could be made for its relevance but he's also just curious. her mention of the safehouse suggests a new arrival — karabast. had it only been a month? — but one could never be too sure. some seemed to enjoy living at the safehouse while others have likely remained there precisely because they lack the means to leave. )

You might be better served seeking a roommate.
Somehow who can share your household costs while you find work.
I'm uncertain how lucrative art would be as a starter job, but you could likely find something that allows you enough flexibility to continue it.
Do you have any experience with digital art?

I work at a cute little bakery/cafe if you like the smell of fresh bread and chocolate all day.

you can stay with me and my roommates, if you want! we have super comfy couches and plenty of pillows and blankets, and tons of clothes for you to borrow until you get settled

[ it's a three bedroom apartment with three teenage girls and one boyfriend... there's plenty of space. ]

You could look for something you like to do.
It helps.

There are still wealthy families. It just seems like there's a bigger divide.

If you want to get caught up, a friend gave me the rundown. I know enough to get you started.

Yeah! It's entry level so you don't need any qualifications, they teach you the recipes and how to work the till. It doesn't pay a ton.

There's a lot of greenery around here. It's usually on rooftops.
If you don't mind longer days, I would say that gardening is an option.

When you envision a work of art it begins as something intangible, not so?
This simply takes that a step further and allows the thing you see in your mind to be seen by others.
Alternatively, you could probably find canvas. Paints. It would be expensive, however. Unless you are able to make your own?

i have three roommates! well, technically i have two roommates and then my boyfriend stays in my room. but he's a total gentleman, i promise.

[ marcos would probably offer to avoid the living room altogether if it made amy more comfortable, but that seems excessive. ]

plus my rent is free anyway, so you don't have to worry about finding a job or anything super quickly. you can just get comfortable and find something you really like. if you want, you can help out with silena -- she's doing catering stuff at my charity auction this weekend!

I'm not sure. I haven't actually visited any of the galleries.
