A few thoughts before I make it too far down into this very exceptional bottle of moonshine I helped steal.

Quentin Coldwater and I were musing in our respective groups about what all we have to do with - well, for lack of a better way to put it, absolutely everything in this time, but more specifically with why.

Does anybody else get the notion that history could be repeating itself? That this happened once before with a different, more ancient grouping native to this universe - and planet?

Furthermore, is it possible there are others like us - others that wanted these gates to be activated again and we're merely accomplishing what they want - or perhaps, can't? Do.

Are we the only ones like us on this planet?

EDITING, as I pour myself another.

Perhaps we can set up a patrol of the New Amsterdam gate? Or, we can set some surveillance? The gates do work both ways and not knowing would could come through is worrisome, to say the least.

To put it succinctly, you think we might be opening doors for previous "Displaced," for lack of a better form of terminology?

I can see it from the ... vision we got.

You know where I'm at on this. But all these gate things were set up, and required people like us to open it. That seems pretty directly pointing at it not being new, and since they're in ruins, maybe it was put into place hundreds of years ago.

If not for them, then because of them. But, we were led there and others were literally dropped in their respective points on the globe, all leading to one final group kumbaya.

Who's to say there are others that are still around, who needed us to do their dirty work. Perhaps, because they themselves can't. Could their power have been stripped? Or, cut off.

Every question begets more questions. But, our shared vision did bring with it clear knowledge of what all we can do with these newly opened gates. There are no coincidences.

And the dreams from before. The bridge?

Yes. Coming together, we created literal bridges. Over a hundred. How is it we all collectively know this to be true if we don't have a direct connection to our descendants, who may or may not be here among us.

And here we are, activating them all over again. Only, anything being in ruins implies something happened. Something catastrophic.

Ball referenced that. He said that the bridges were made by other god-touched, and said that we were god-touched ourselves. His information wasn't clear, but he said that he was certain that the bridges didn't bring us here.

Then again, he didn't know a lot.

No, we didn't create the bridges. We ... accessed them somehow.

[interminably]

Accessed again, it seems. Like a time long before us.

Could it be something simpler: someone knows about us and wants to use this power now that it's been opened up?

[interminably]

Then, is that someone friend or foe?

[strove]

Yeah. Like I mentioned before, there are people who treat us like gods and say that we're god-touched. Ball said that some previous god-touched are said to have created the bridges, but he didn't know anything about them that was certain.

I don't know. Rey and I ruled out it being Ball because of how he and his followers have acted, but they haven't been subtle about us. Maybe someone else took notice.

Just what I enjoy, to be a pawn on someone else's chessboard.

So, how do we use their game? We're not pawns. Each of us are queens, especially now with what we've been given. Freedom to move largely unobserved.

Created. It would take a great deal of power to create bridges of this nature and scope.

He didn't use "god-touched" lightly. Ball worships us, just like his followers do.

Even Queens can be felled. The trick is to not fall into any traps laid. We use their game against them is what I'd normally say, but the instructions left are both known and unknown. Obviously, these are bridges that must be utilized, but to what end. They must all be leading somewhere significant.

All right. Gods bestowed these gifts and created a network for travel. One faster and far more reliable.

We decide where they lead, and if one of our own is felled, it should come with a plan. A contingency to use that. We have freedom of movement and communication.

None of us are pawns. It's time we acted like it.

Mm. I don't know about history, but I am suspicious of the fact that we were made to open those gates by another party.
If someone else has a use for them, it may be a problem.

One seemingly impossible. Nothing like this can be done among my people.

Nor mine. One does not simply alter time. One can bend it to their will, defy age and mortality, but not time itself.

Something not at all similar I'd encountered was astral projection and even then, I was projected from the bayou into the city proper and that connection remained tenuous. But, that is not merely appearing somewhere else in body and form entirely.

You're not wrong to be suspicious. Perhaps, we should schedule shifts of a sort in New Amsterdam, to see if anyone unrecognizable uses these bridges as a means of faster than possible transportation.

( There was a time he had a vampire and werewolf army at his disposal. Several, even. And he is not volunteering, by the way. If anyone thinks he is. )

What's new is that the impossible isn't just inside of us. It's linked to this world in some way. Physical manifestation. Though maybe it's always been linked and we haven't seen it. Hard to say.
