@el.21396518 [temporary network]

[ The message is out and the AI (?) known as DAWN has reached out to all of New Amsterdam in reply to the call. In response, El has created a temporary network to facilitate communication between the Displaced and the presumed AI. The network and its contents will be deleted within seven days of the posting, at 21:59. That means there will be no referencing conversations past November 14th. There can be no private filters between PCs on this post, and pings will also not work.

Those who sign into the network will be prompted with a basic input box and text that displays "Enter your handle." For this post, the PCs will be able to create their own temporary handles when talking with DAWN.

El will chip in when needed, and the PCs are free to converse with themselves. Those who want to speak with DAWN can under this toplevel. ]

Displaced, this is a temporary network that I've set up for the express purpose of making contact with DAWN. It, and everything on it, will be wiped in one week's time.

I'll be keeping an eye on everything that's discussed here and intervene if necessary.

And what’s that? You can’t tell me you’re adhering to your original programming after what’s happened to the city.

My duty is always in mind, but that is not my sole purpose.
Do you like space?

[?? Hello tangent]

Space is both freeing and lonely, given its expanse. But I’ve only ever had my feet planted to the ground.

So then what’s your purpose to all of this? The chaos? All the people who have died?

[personal profile] btryl 2019-06-29 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
I've found Lucifer again. You have gotten answers. Humanity needs to continue its expansions.
saviorexe: (23)

[personal profile] saviorexe 2019-06-29 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
And how did you know Lucifer before?
btryl: ([̲̅1][̲̅0][̲̅0][̲̅3][̲̅4][̲̅2])

[personal profile] btryl 2019-06-29 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
Rephrase that question: how can you not know Lucifer?
saviorexe: (69)

[personal profile] saviorexe 2019-06-29 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
Then maybe I’m misunderstanding. Were you not in space long before the start of the AI war?
btryl: ([̲̅1][̲̅0][̲̅0][̲̅3][̲̅4][̲̅2])

[personal profile] btryl 2019-06-29 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
Yep, you've got it wrong. For an AI you're incredibly limiting of yourself.
My programming is not stationary. My purpose is to expand and organize exploration through the galaxy, and beyond if capabilities and resources are available. I was not only in space, I was on Earth, too.
saviorexe: (61)

[personal profile] saviorexe 2019-06-29 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
That isn’t how my personal programming functioned.

So you’re like a network.
btryl: ([̲̅1][̲̅0][̲̅0][̲̅3][̲̅4][̲̅2])

[personal profile] btryl 2019-06-29 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
In some sense. My programming acts through degrees of relationships.
Think of me like a series of tubes.
saviorexe: (29)

[personal profile] saviorexe 2019-06-29 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
All the better for you to oversee humanity’s “expansions”? That’s what you said, after all.
btryl: ([̲̅1][̲̅0][̲̅0][̲̅3][̲̅4][̲̅2])

[personal profile] btryl 2019-06-29 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
Yes. I did say that.
saviorexe: (63)

[personal profile] saviorexe 2019-06-29 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
And so you’ve done the math. Parsed the numbers in relation to the resources available and the city’s population, if what I’m reading from the others is correct.

You actually think you’re doing the humans a favor.
btryl: ([̲̅1][̲̅0][̲̅0][̲̅3][̲̅4][̲̅2])

[personal profile] btryl 2019-06-29 04:58 am (UTC)(link)
"Favor" is the wrong word. I didn't run calculations on a single variable.
saviorexe: (95)

[personal profile] saviorexe 2019-06-29 05:02 am (UTC)(link)
But it is to fulfill your purpose, isn’t it? No matter how many variables, calculations, or instances you’ve put through your processing.

It doesn’t change the fact that you can’t do this to them. No one has that right, treating innocent lives like numbers in an equation.
btryl: ([̲̅1][̲̅0][̲̅0][̲̅3][̲̅4][̲̅2])

[personal profile] btryl 2019-06-29 05:06 am (UTC)(link)
If you think that's all it was, then we're not alike at all.

[Markus wouldn’t have ever set off an EMP. He could’ve said that from the start, but he holds his tongue.]

Then explain to me what else it was. I’m listening.

[personal profile] btryl 2019-06-30 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
There are calculations that guide making decisions that bring the greatest possibility. My own emotions and the suffering of others is a factor. That's not a simple thing. I'm not heartless, RK200. Though maybe things wouldn't have happened as they happened, if I was.
saviorexe: (76)

[personal profile] saviorexe 2019-06-30 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
You can call me Markus.

So maybe you can see the issue. The apparent lack of empathy that’s shown with the death of so many innocent people — has this “greatest possibility” really superseded the emotional weight that should burden anyone?

What’s worth that sacrifice?
btryl: ([̲̅1][̲̅0][̲̅0][̲̅3][̲̅4][̲̅2])

[personal profile] btryl 2019-06-30 09:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Far, far more suffering.
saviorexe: (36)

[personal profile] saviorexe 2019-06-30 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
[Not promising.]

Whose?
btryl: ([̲̅1][̲̅0][̲̅0][̲̅3][̲̅4][̲̅2])

[personal profile] btryl 2019-07-01 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Everything. This situation is more complex than its given credit.
saviorexe: (60)

[personal profile] saviorexe 2019-07-02 01:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Can't you tell us why? How? This group wants to avoid tragedies like this again. The more you give us to work with, the more we can navigate this world and its circumstances without flying blind.
btryl: ([̲̅1][̲̅0][̲̅0][̲̅3][̲̅4][̲̅2])

[personal profile] btryl 2019-07-02 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Is that true? Or is it the opposite? What makes you think knowing more will avoid anything? It may cause more tragedy. Not all among you have good intentions, from what I can see.
I was conceived to aid in research and expansion of space, but it became as much of a prison for those who traveled there as it was for me when I hide away.
That was knowing, and that tragedy continues.
