We don't know if the observers will be hurt. Having backup is important. Some means of recording things will be important.

I can't pretend to be a scientist, but I have seen my people hurt by dealing with dangerous things they don't understand. Trust me when I'm asking for precautions here. Call me paranoid all you want, but I want us to be safe.
