It's a common courtesy in our world. Daenerys was being polite.
[Bad username or site: daenerys @ targaryen] For some reason they like "sir" here, "ma'am" for women. In front of the names, it's "Mr." or "Ms." What did they say for merchants and traders in the Free Cities? We were taught that there are many there who have influence but no title. There are no titles here anymore.
