Perhaps not. But the harm doesn't have to be inflicted on the person who can open the door. Keeping a knife at the throat of a fellow newcomer could be just as effective. A desperate person might even kill one of their new comrades to prove that they're serious.

Something to consider when it comes to safety, eh?
