If it were up to me, the door would just be left open, because new arrivals have a right to make their own decisions about whether to come and go once they have the risks explained to them and the compulsion drugs have worn off.
However, I'm well aware of how unpopular that opinion seems to be. I thought that accompanying a new arrival on a walk would be fine, though, and would help them feel less trapped, but apparently that was also not acceptable.
