@andy.anderson

Anyone here choose to not use the ability they were given for whatever reason? Or is it sometimes impossible to avoid using it?

I haven't figured out what mine is yet but I thought I'd just check in to see if they're easily controlled when you have figured them out or if they just pop off without preamble. Might be a little bit of a mood killer in certain situations if that were to happen.

Can you turn them off even if you can't actually turn them off?

When I was brought here, I did not make a choice to use what gift I had been given. It came when it was needed.

It’s different now. I’ve learned to summon it over time. But I still can’t be sure that it won’t come whether I’ve called on it or not.

I first used mine in a state of high stress. It's one that could be unpleasant if I had it turned on all the time, so I don't.

Basically, yes, you can turn them off. You're not forced to use them. The stuff you can't turn off is the empathy bond and everything associated.

If you find a way to get rid of them, let me know.

I was in danger, in the ruins near Everest. My gift is only that I’m stronger than I should be.

It might be that they come when needed. Some people seem to go a long while before they know.

If you could have chosen something, what would it have been?

I've only used mine once knowingly so far.
It wasn't received well, so I'm not inclined to try it again soon though it does interest me.

[ Don't worry about it. ]

Charmspeak, or something like it.
I've always needed to have a certain charisma for my job but now it appears to be more literal.

It took me about a month to discover what mine was, and while the reveal itself took me by surprise, I knew I had some kind of power.

In terms of control, you can practice and learn to use it and better the strength of your power. It isn't necessarily on all the time, but you can - for lack of better words - unlock a new aspect of it, often also by surprise. Like an evolution or adaption. These 'level ups' can appear at random, but again with practice I have found control quite possible.

So it's a bit of both. We all have them whether we like it or not, and learning to use them is in our best interests. These powers seem tied to our emotions, which given the empathy bond, makes sense on that front.

At first it was random, but I practiced and now I've got it locked down rather tight.

Found mine out by accident, but now that I've figured out how to trigger it it's not all that hard. I think it kinda depends on the person and whether the trigger is something specific. Or the power is.

Not exactly. From what I gathered, I can persuade them to do something they might not otherwise. Be honest. Follow a command.

It doesn't last very long and the person realizes what's happened, which is a decided shortcoming of the power.

Not create, but water is in most living things and I can take it.
