@andy.anderson

Anyone here choose to not use the ability they were given for whatever reason? Or is it sometimes impossible to avoid using it?

I haven't figured out what mine is yet but I thought I'd just check in to see if they're easily controlled when you have figured them out or if they just pop off without preamble. Might be a little bit of a mood killer in certain situations if that were to happen.

Can you turn them off even if you can't actually turn them off?

I think so too.

And I am.
But not for the reasons most might think.
It was my work to find out about alien life so if I could compel said alien life to talk to me about themselves, it'd make my job much easier.

[ And, like, yeah the other reasons most might think but he has an image to maintain here thus far. ]

For the most part.
Saved me a couple times when we had that flood of monsters a few weeks back, but I might've been able to figure something else out.

Guess it depends on your world. If it's as bad as this one gets and you managed without one, you'll be fine. If you're from one of those safer, calmer worlds, you might need the advantage.

I had a friend who was making me.
But she left.

Must be one hell of a team if you're turning down extra firepower.

[That WOULD do it. And Ellie is quiet for a few minutes before she responds, trying to figure out whether she does mind.]

Ask me again later? I don't want to sound like a paranoid asshole, honest

There's plants, sometimes there are monsters. Some of the cities have coastlines. Water is everywhere.

No one else is pushing me.

[ He'd rather ignore it, not rely on something he doesn't understand. ]

I figure I can get on fine without them.

Probably depends on who you ask.

I did not put much stock in gods before coming here, but there is something out there to fit what these people believe.

A gun and a winning smile.

[ Except he doesn't smile very often, anymore. ]

Or do you mean the ones here?

If that's the case, I wouldn't rule out using it entirely just yet. Not until you get a feel for what we're up against.

Those things don't stop. They don't think. They've got abilities of their own. Hopefully you won't ever have to see 'em, but considering the last few weeks...

I'm not betting on that.

Depends on the creature and how you define abilities.

I prefer to use mine when and where it's needed — I can heal things, albeit not instantly — but given that it takes conscious thought in most cases to utilize it I don't think it's outlandish to assume it's use could be avoided if I so wished.

Though they do at times seem to respond to our emotions, so I'd take care with that if possible.

I was in the first batch of people here, so we all kind of figured it out at our own pace. It still works that way, but we didn't know for certain at the time that everyone absolutely came with a new power.

It suits me well enough. When I was younger, I was a good enough fighter, but I also knew what the dangers were. I always wanted to be stronger, better, a better sword.

The strength I have been given here still isn’t enough for what I face at home — or even for what we face here, sometimes — but the boy I was would have been glad of it. I am glad of it, too.

Is the place you come from much like this one?

Thanks.

[It might be a simple bit of understanding, but it speaks well of Andy, and Ellie will remember that long after this conversation's over.]

Bothered more by the implant shit and being drugged than I am about the extra powers. But I guess everything about this is fucked up.
