Talk about a mess.

Since you're all probably wondering what the hell just happened, a huge EMP hit the entire city of New Amsterdam. It's not going to be widely reported until power and systems can come back online, but unlike some of you, the citizens of this city are not prepared for this. A lot of the neural implant interfacing is going to be down, too. The safehouse will still be accessible (I know what I'm doing), but some of you might not even be able to get into your apartments.

I got the message from this mysterious DAWN, too. Don't know what that's about, but if it really is an AI, then we could be in some serious trouble. They're supposed to be extinct, if you weren't in the know about that. I know some of you are still new to this.

One other big thing to note: Soon the heat's going to start to rise. The pyramid outside the city has also powered down, which means that the ozone layer is completely exposed. If that pyramid isn't put back into operation soon, this entire city is going to basically melt. Not fun, so if any of you are up the task, well, we'd all owe you one.

Okay, this is the last thing, for real: while any messages sent on the Morningstar network will be fine, the city-wide network is probably going to be a little spotty until this is fixed. That means any private messages you send to each other might not go to the right place. Try to keep any coordination on here, if you can. I'll do what I can to facilitate communication, but like I said: this is a mess.

Do you know what's in the pyramid? How it works?

The pyramid contains an entire system set up to maintain the atmospheric grid which normally protects all of us from this suffocating heat. I know how it works, more or less, but are you actually asking for an engineering lesson?

I doubt I know enough engineering to make sense of your lesson, but it would be good for our engineers to hear how the pyramid works. I don't trust anyone else here to fix it in time.

How stable is the tech? I mean "not very", obviously, but are there any specific exposure/containment or "blowing up in our faces" issues we should pack for?

My guess is that there are failsafes put in place in the event that something like this might happen. There should be technicians on-site who are supposed to monitor the pyramid's functions and deal with anything that goes wrong, but if it hasn't booted itself back up yet, my gut feeling is that there's something wrong.

Yeah, like a virus that's blocking its built-in reboot procedures and giving its technicians the runaround.

I know the network's spotty, but how's communication in/out of the pyramid? Are they calling anyone for back-up?

That's weird. I just checked and I don't see any kind of outgoing messages.

Weird, ominous. Same thing. Their lines might've just been hit harder than most of the network, but I'll make sure our nerds bring some muscle.

What about Morningstar's network? Is there a way to test secure messages going in or check for interference in that area?

The Morningstar network is untouched. Not even an AI is going to be able to break in that easily. If anything changes on that front, I'll let you all know.

Or we'll find out when we get inside the pyramid and the line goes dead. I'll try pinging you when we're there.

About a week, I'd say.

Can you get a sense of whether or not we'd be the only ones bee-lining out to the pyramid? I assume we don't want any company from the locals.

I'd only be speculating. But given the sheer number of lives at stake, it wouldn't surprise me. I just think that you guys are a little more equipped to take care of it, with your glowy chest powers to fall back on and all that.

I'm not disputing that. Just trying to figure out if we should be considering crowd control alongside everything else.

No one can be sent in from anywhere else because New Amsterdam has been cut off to contain the virus. But the local government isn't going to rely on all of you to handle this, so they'll probably send NAPD units out to survey the area.

Chances are that you'll beat them there, though. With the chaos going on around the city they've got a lot on their plate right now.
